Serena Williams Handles Losing With Humility and Grace
READ MORE:
Or not.

Did you see the pathetic press conference with Serena Williams this morning? It's one thing to express disappointment in a loss, quite another to handle losing the way Serena did last night and throughout her career. Classlessly. (Not a word, but it should be)

"I just think she made a lot of lucky shots."

That was just the first of her gems. For those of you who didn't watch, this could not be further from the truth. Williams got outworked. But why give Henin any credit? After all, she's only the top player in the world. Surely, she didn't play well.
She was asked if her assessment was that she lost, rather than Henin won. "I think that's usually the case with me," she said, "that it's for me to win or lose."
Ah. I see. So what went wrong Serena, can you explain?
"No I can't," she said.
But let's get back on topic and talk all about ourselves.
She was asked if she thought her fitness was an issue. "I'm very fit," she snapped. "I can run for hours."
This isn't much of a surprise from Serena, but it remains an embarrassment. Often times I just root for her to win, so the world isn't subjected to another American athlete with a sense of entitlement.

That is what Serena is. Step up be a (wo)man and accept your loss. I believe this is the third time she has lost in the Quaterfinals against Henin this year.

Well it isn't exactly fair that she has drawn Henin in the Quarters for the third straight major.  I can't blame her for being upset, but she should've handled herself a little better.

The adverb form of "classless," I believe, is "classlessnessously."

It IS fair CMAC!!! If she played in any tournaments other than slams she wouldnt meet the top seeds until the semis. Obviously she is better than a 12 seed, but while the other players are out getting rankings points, she's designing clothes. She's lucky she didn't have to play Henin or Sharpova earlier!

That still doesn't make it fair.  There are lower seeds who get to play worse players in the quarterfinals.

Please. If the top seeds win you should play at top 4 player by the quarterfinals. It's isnt fair that the Williams are about a foot taller than Justine but she compensates by being a better tennis player. Fair should not be mentioned in sports conversation anyway.

Fair should completely be included in sports competition.  The goal in every sport is having a fair contest between teams/players.

Well the old saying goes, "If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best"  and Serena just didn't do it, wether it is in the first, fourth round, quarterfinals, or the finals.  Fact is she got beat, and handled the loss in a very poor way.

I was even more discouraged while her sister Venus played and won the next night, Serena looked like she was forced to be there, and could barley bring herself to cheer when Venus won.  I was glad Hennin beat them both and proved beyond a doubt that she is the best.

Disinterested is what you could call it at times.  Does she wish to be there or not?  The Ricky Williams of Tennis, but hopefully not on the chronic.
