Sergio Aguero has decided to extend his future at Manchester City. The Argentinean striker has inked a contract extension that will keep him at the Eastlands till 2017. Manchester City officials were facing sleepless nights with Sergio Aguero being continuously linked to away moves.
Sergio Aguero refused to cull rumors about his potential transfer until now, probably because Manchester City has been abysmal over the past year. The sacking of manager Roberto Mancini and the rise of Manchester United and Chelsea would have certainly made Sergio Aguero wonder if he can grab silverware while playing at Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero’s old contract was due to end in 2016. The new contract comes with a luxurious increment and a huge hike in transfer fees for any club that desires to buy the striker.
The 24-year-old Argentina international joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid for £38 million in 2011. Sergio Aguero performed brilliantly in his first season, having scored 30 goals in 48 appearances, but injuries took him down this season.
“I'm very happy at City and I feel very appreciated,” Sergio Aguero said in an interview to Manchester City’s official website. “It's been barely two years since I've arrived, and sometimes I feel like I've been here all my life.”
Sergio Aguero has scored 47 goals in 87 games for Manchester City. His tally includes the infamous injury-time strike against Queens Park Rangers which allowed Manchester City to win the title race against Manchester United last season.
“I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, and that always reminds me of our title and that goal against QPR. I can never forget that moment,” Sergio Aguero added. “Now I am looking forward to next season and pushing hard to win the title again.”
Sergio Aguero signed in the new contract after Manchester City made sure their other star players; David Silva and Yaya Toure remained at the club as well. The duo signed in new long-term contracts which will keep them at 2017 as well.
The fate of Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko still remains unclear. Carlos Tevez has desire to move back to his boyhood club in Argentina. On the other hand, Edin Dzeko is being linked with a couple of Italian clubs. Apparently, Juventus and Napoli are quite interested in acquiring Edin Dzeko’s services.
