After experimenting with Shane Battier at power forward position last year during the playoffs, the Miami Heat will permanently log Shane Battier into the starting power forward spot for the rest of the season. Chris Bosh will now move into the starting center position and Udonis Haslem and newly acquired Rashard Lewis will play the back-up forward roles.
Although, Battier gives up a lot of size at the four position; he’s able to stretch the floor out so that Wade and James have more room to penetrate in the paint. Furthermore, Wade and James are good rebounders and the eastern conference doesn’t boast the same 7-foot power forwards as the western conference does.
With coaches continually playing small ball in an effort to get easy transition points, look for Battier to play the power forward for the entire season.
