Woods told his fans in a recent press release that he was aiming to enter into the upper echelon of golf once again as he wanted to restart his career. Woods also informed that this was one of the main reasons he fired Williams. Woods confided that Williams made him remember about the past where although he had recorded many successful victories nonetheless it also made him remember his mistakes; something that Woods is trying to get over.
The 14-times major champion was expected to lead the tournament having won it 5 times before now. Joel should get accustomed to the habits of former world number one, Tiger Woods as soon as possible.
Previously, Joel used to caddy for Mark O'Meara, who happens to be a good friend of Woods. Woods said in a recent press release that he wanted to end the season on a high note and therefore wanted to win the last Major of this year, the USA PGA championship. Unfortunately it looks as if he will not make the cut this year.
Woods last won a major in 2007 while his last victory came in 2009. This alone shows that the player has been out of touch with his sport for a while now however Woods now claims to have recovered from his family and injury issues.
Woods also said in his press release that he had found his swing and along with it the x-factor that made those miraculously stunning shots possible. Nevertheless, for Woods to acquire hardware again, he would require a stable caddy. The question now would be if Joel is the man who can spend more than Williams’ 7 years with Woods?
In his pre-tournament press release Woods told his fans that Joel was most certainly on the short list but he had not decided yet who he would take on the PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club.
There is a possibility Woods will use his old friend and business partner, Bryon Bell in the tournament at Atlanta this week. Once the tournament has ended, the FedEx Playoffs starting on 25th of August has been set as a deadline for the new caddy to arrive.
Woods commented on the issue saying, “There's nobody I've committed to, but Mark was nice enough to talk to me about it and said that Shane is available if I so choose. But going into this major championship, I'm focused on this. After this event I'll sit down and really look at it hopefully going to the Playoffs.”
Sources have revealed that Joel was seen chatting with Woods on the range last week in Ohio. With tons of interaction between Woods and Joel one can expect Joel to be Woods preferred caddy at this stage in time.
