Shane Victorino Asked To Stop Eating Spam By PETA Assistant Director Dan Shannon
Hawaiians Are Not Exactly Thrilled With PETA Talking Crap About Their Favorite Food
shane victorino spam hawaii peta dan shannon phillies world series outfielder nlcsIn their latest attempt to garner publicity to their extremist cause, the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has voiced their concern to World Series-bound outfielder Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Victorino's favorite meal is Spam musubi. While many Americans might not be familiar with it, it's something that is hugely popular in Hawaii, where Victorino is from. Spam musubi is a slice of spam, on a small brick of sticky rice, wrapped up and held together with seaweed paper. Personally, I prefer the teriyaki chicken version, but many Hawaiians (including Victorino) simply love Spam.

The organization that proposed ice cream made of breast milk, offered Sharon Stone a brain scan to check for defects, asked Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to spare their child the cruelty of wearing fur, and brought us naked (and anti-fur) pictures of Amanda Beard, Charlotte Ross, Joanna Krupa, Eva Mendes, Christina Applegate, Kimora Lee Simmons, Alicia Silverstone, Sophie Monk, Hawaii-born Maggie Q and Jenna Jameson (never mind, everyone has been seeing her naked for years now) is now speaking out against Hormel's treatment of animals at the plant where they process Spam.

Having lived in Hawaii, there are a few things I know about Hawaiians.

1) They will treat you exactly how you treat them. Some people stereotype them as racists, but that's all wrong. Respect them and their home, and they are some of the greatest people in the world. Disrespect them, and they will beat your ass.

mcdonalds spam breakfast patter peta shane victorino hawaii2) They will eat Spam. Period. They love it, and if you want to stop them from eating it, you will have to pry it from their cold, dead hands. They serve it in restaurants, they serve it at roadside stands, they eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. McDonalds in Hawaii even serves Spam in their breakfast meals. I know, because I've seen it.

As PETA speaks out against Hawaii's favorite food, Hawaiians are speaking out against PETA in return. Many people throughout the state are outraged. On the local news, they are speaking out against PETA with an anger normally reserved for issues like the rail transit proposal and the SuperFerry.

This isn't the first ridiculous publicity stunt by PETA, and it certainly won't be the last. But you can guarantee they're not winning any friends in the beautiful state of Hawaii.

I would hardly define a well written, factual, and may I point out short letter as an extremist publicity stunt.  As a fellow Animal Rights advocate, I to have once or twice questioned PETAs tactics.  But I think if Hawaiian's, or anybody else finds it "disrespectful" when asked to respect the basic rights of another living thing by abstaining from cruel, unnecessary actions before these animals meet their ultimate fate as your "gourmet" dinner, I think it is you who needs to question your beliefs and actions.

Allow me to introduce you to the food chain. Maybe PETA should protest the way all the other carnivorous animals eat their prey. You realize they don't always do it nicely, right?

Your kidding me with that response right?  Nobody is questioning the way anybody "eats their prey"  And personally, I'm not even questioning what you choose to (humanely) kill and eat.  It's is how, as somebody who is allegedly on the top of the evolutionary scale, chooses to UNECESSARILY treat inhumanely another living thing that feels the same pain and suffering that they would.

Who are YOU kidding with YOUR response? I don't think Shane Victorino cruely killed anything besides the Dodgers and Brewers- PETA protesting Shane Victorino is nothing but a publicity stunt. If PETA wants to protest against companies, thats fine, but leave the man and his food alone. No Aloha for PETA in Hawaii.

I don't think politely and concisely asking a person to consider the facts on a troubling issue qualifies as a publicity "stunt".  Though they are obviously trying to generate publicity.  Generating publicity, or awareness for what you believe is right is exactly what any organization does, no matter their cause.  Go on kicking Dogs and enjoy your cock fights.  I'm sure Hawaii is glad to have you two and your narrow minded, simplistic views representing them.  But allow Shane to speak for himself on whether he can think and formulate opinions on more than just Baseball.  You guys stick to Baseball.  I'm sure even that doesn't come easy.

This story has got to be absolutely one of the most ridiculous stories i have ever heard thus far.
IM FROM HAWAII AND I LIKE SPAM TOO.
What next are they gonna come down on ppl who love cheeseburgers because its cruelty to cows?
What about the cruelty to chicken in fried chicken??? LMAO
What about all the millions of fishes that are consumed on a daily basis?
Or im sorry does sea life not count in this quest and belief to save all things that live?
Even though the amount of fish has dropped drastically within the past decade.
lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol (yes that's right I am laughing out loud hysterically)
What a waste of internet space. lol
Shane Victorino from Hawaii like most of us locals love spam musubi a child hood snack you could liken to what a peanut butter jelly sandwhich might be to most mainlanders.
But while PETA puts this one man under attack, I'm sure they've also recognized that there is animal cruelty involved in almost all animal food sources.
Chicken farms, cow farms, etc etc etc.
So as they publicly criticize Shane and the state he represents, they should also criticize all celebrities and political figures who eat steaks, bacon, chicken, cheeseburgers, and all things meat.
Because as public figures, aren't they also encouraging animal cruelty?
Keeping in mind all the people who will eat these things because their favorite singer, actor/actress, sports icon, or political candidate does.
This seems almost outrageous right?
Apparently not for PETA.
So in the name of fairness to Shane and all of Hawaii, as well as their 100% commitment to their beliefs, attack all those who eat meat.
Unless of course PETA's beliefs are half ass, and they attack randomly or when they feel like it.
It's one thing to stand up for your beliefs, but it's almost hypocrital to do so, half ass, and furthermore to attack the wrong source (Shane V.), when they should be attacking the people directly responsible.
I wouldn't call PETA's statment to Shane a publicity stunt, I'd call it for what it is, a CHEAP SHOT.
He likes spam.
We like spam.
AND THEN?

"Go on kicking Dogs and enjoy your cock fights." Is that the sort of thing you think us locals like to relax and 'enjoy'? Just because a hand full of absent-minded morons do indeed participate in this sort of activities, I can assure you that the majority of the people in Hawaii do NOT support this at all. Talk about 'narrow minded, simplistic views' huh?

I'm not Hawaiian but the picture in that blog makes me want to go have breakfast with my Samoan friends...who also love spam and make breakfast with it. (And theirs always looks much better than the ones in that pic)

Hey isn't that sign in the pic above from a McDonald's? One of the reasons I loved Hawaii was because their McDonald's had spam, eggs, and rice. lol

Yes it is. I wouldn't eat the stuff, myself. But I have no problems with people eating what they think tastes good. That's what I do.

First of all, Where have you been?  PETA and other Animal Righs Adovocates stand against crueltiy towards all animals.  I don't think that they will "next" come out against cruelty towards Cows, Chickens, etc.  They are, as are all morally correct people, already agaisnt such behavior.  Second, Did you know anything about this subject prior to this story?  Do you know any more about Animlal Cruelty now?  Shane, the great state of Hawaii, and SPAM are clearly not the first or only to be asked to consider the facts on Animal Cruelty.  Lastly, while PETA may push for a vegetarian diet, like I pointed out before, for most Animal Rights Adovocates, this is not about what you CHOOSE to EAT, it is about how you choose to treat these animals that you choose to eat, that can feel pain and suffering just like me and you.   So yes, if you can't see past the "flash" of this story to the real issue, you are narrow minded and simplistic.

Then why are they going after Victorino? He's not abusing animals or treating them badly, he's eating meat out of a can.

Isn't it ironic that PETA pushes for more humane ways of treating that animal which you are about to eat, yet one of the celebrity spokespeople is Pamela Anderson who is constantly on tv with her artificial tag team partners, looking like she just rolled off the corner of Hollywood and Vine after an all night binger with her guy of the week club.  Talk about inhumane treatment
