In one of the more impressive philanthropic moves we've seen in a while from an athlete, former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal has announce that he plans to open a free children's hospital
in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
"I wasn’t supposed to announce this, but I’m going to do it anyway. I had a talk with the powers that be in Baton Rouge, and my plan is to build a Shaquille O’Neal children’s hospital. That’s my plan, so that right now is in the works, and hopefully it gets done. [We're going] to build the biggest, freest hospital in the state of Louisiana. All sick children can come for free. That’s my vision."
That's quite a vision, and there's still no exact word on how he's going to accomplish such a lofty goal, but it's great to see him planning such an impressive endeavor.
Health care cost has been a contentious political issue seemingly forever, and things like this children's hospital will help ensure that people don't have to pay exorbitant fees just for their children to be healthy.
Kudos to Shaq and everyone involved, and hopefully this opens up soon for the people of Louisiana.
