The big question heading into tonight's Game 4 is whether Terry Francona has made the right decision to start Tim Wakefield who hasn't pitched since the end of September. Francona's other option -- Red Sox's ace Josh Beckett on 3 days rest. Down 2-1, he would seem like the best option to make sure Boston isn't facing C.C. Sabathia in an elimination game.
Over the Monster tries his best to understand the decision for Wakefield:
On the Beckett issue. I like Tito taking the hard line on this. I think if he's well enough to throw tomorrow it gives us an excellent chance to win, but throwing Wake tomorrow and Beckett against C.C. gives us the best chance of winning both of the next two.Eric Wilbur would rather see Beckett:
"For the Red Sox, it’s a completely different situation. Somebody, anybody, else is going to have to win a playoff game other than Beckett, but by pitching him tonight, you not only give yourself an upgrade over Wakefield -- who hasn’t pitched since September (a month in which he had an ERA of 8.76) -- you also get him for Game 7 on regular days off."I think we all remember and have heard over the last day how well Josh Beckett pitched the last time he had 3 days rest. It went well, but pitching won't even be an issue if the Red Sox continue to hit the way they have.
Who would you start tonight?
