Sidney Crosby's injury history is pretty well-documented, so the Penguins had to be pretty concerned when their superstar dropped to the ice during today's 2-0 win over the Islanders.

Crosby took a puck right in the face from a deflection of a shot by teammate Brooks Orpik.

Crosby left the game immediately and went to the hospital for dental surgery.

It was a pretty freaky looking injury, so take a look if you're not too squeamish:

Yes that's accurate.  They say there's no timetable for his return.  He'll be re-evaluated in a few days when the swelling goes down.  I'm assuming out a couple weeks with that at least.

That's what CBC is reporting
Out indefinitely

Thankfully he just needed a little dental work and shouldn't miss more than a couple games if any.  That was definitely a freak play.

I forgot to mention that he's one of the few players in the NHL who religiously wears a mouthguard.  However, even that couldn't stop a deflected slapshot.

Wow,  Saw the replay while at BP watching the Oilers kill the Canucks, but they only showed it once.  Pretty vicious hit.
