Singapore won medals of gold, silver and bronze in the recent Paralympics. Equestrian dressage rider Laurentia Tan clinched 2 bronze medals and swimmer Yip Pin Xiu won a gold medal as well as a silver. Laurentia Tan suffers from profound deafness and cerebral palsy.
Both athletes received a hero's welcome when they arrived in Singapore. The Singaproe Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan announced that Yip Pin Xiu would be conferred the Meritorious Service Medal and Laurentia Tan would be conferred the Public Service Medal.
