You have to love the gimmicks minor league baseball organization marketing departments put together. There's been some stellar efforts thus far, but the Hagerstown Suns get extra points (and ****) for their timing and execution on tonight's promotion. The news release about tonight's Hagerstown Suns promotion never mentions Barry Bonds - but it doesn't really have to.
Tonight in Hagerstown, the Single-A club is holding Asterisk Night. The first 756 fans to the 7:05 game will receive an Official Asterisk Fan Club card. Holders of the cards will be eligible for prizes. In addition, hot dogs will be priced at $7.56, but then discounted to $3.
In the news release, Suns assistant general manager C.J. Johnson said: "For some reason, a lot of people are talking about asterisks this year. Hopefully, having this celebration will encourage use of asterisks and lead to a new appreciation for this important literary tool."
Well done, C.J. If I can offer one recommendation for your promotion to be a home run, how about selling Juice at the concession stands for .73?
