Sir Alex Ferguson has renewed his interest in the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric. The Manchester United manager is attempting a last ditch effort to lure the midfield prodigy to Old Trafford.

The Scottish gaffer is a huge fan of Luka Modric. Sir Alex Ferguson has been trailing the Tottenham Hotspur star since last summer but the two clubs have failed to agree on a transfer fee.

Tottenham Hotspur’s failure to reach the Champions League has boosted Sir Alex Ferguson’s chances of bringing Luka Modric to Manchester United. Luka Modric is seen as the man that could add the perfect amount of brains and brawn to Manchester United’s midfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson desperately needs to buff up his midfield this summer if he wants to contend with archrivals and English Premier League winners Manchester City. Manchester City’s superior team took the English Premier League by storm to win their first Premier League title in 44 years.

Nevertheless, Manchester City won the Premier League title on goal difference from second placed Manchester United. This means Sir Alex Ferguson and Co. weren’t far behind the “rising blue moon”.

Luka Modric’s addition to the Manchester United squad will provide the Red Devils with x-factor that their midfield has been missing for so long. Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs have finally started aging and Anderson and Tomas Cleverly are yet to learn how to create spark in the midfield. Michael Carrick has posted an average season yet again and Darren Fletcher is still sidelined because of his long term injury.

Under such circumstances Manchester United contended for the Premier League title last season. It was sheer luck and the brilliance of Sir Alex Ferguson that kept Manchester United on track despite heavy defeats in the English Premier League.

Luka Modric inked a new contract before the start of last season. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old is ready to play under a red jersey this season. Presently, Luka Modric has been labelled with a price tag of £40 million but Manchester United can get him at a discounted price.

Sir Alex Ferguson is also attempting to sign in the Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa. The Japan international has been in superb form for the German outfit last season. If Manchester United fail to seal the deal with Luka Modric, Sir Alex Ferguson will place his faith in the hands of Shinji Kagawa.
