Sir Alex Ferguson decides to extend Naniís stay at Manchester United
Sir Alex Ferguson has bluntly expressed intentions of axing Manchester United rebel Nani. The Scotsman has told the Portuguese winger that he does not have a future at Old Trafford. Nani is presently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, but that hasn’t kept him away from the transfer market.
Arsenal are showing a lot of interest in Nani, who still has 18 months left on his contract with Manchester United. Reportedly, Arsenal will launch a £10 million bid for Nani during the January transfer window. Other top notch European clubs such as Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in acquiring Nani’s services.
In spite of all the reports about Nani’s exit, it appears as if Sir Alex Ferguson has awarded the 26-year-old winger a chance to redeem himself. In a recent press release Sir Alex Ferguson said that Nani’s contract with Manchester United hadn’t ended yet, therefore the club could review his performance till the end of the season.
“Nani’s contract isn’t up until the end of next season – and we need him,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “He offers something different from the other players we have. He’s got an incredible talent, but, unfortunately, he’s been injured.
“We have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in the hope that it will help him with his recovery. I don’t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He’s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one.
“But Nani has got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?”
It is still not clear whether Sir Alex Ferguson is planning on committing to any transfer business in January. Reports about Manchester United lining up a £16 million bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski have filled the airwaves since the summer transfer window ended.
Manchester United officials have refused to shed light on the transfer saga, but they have confirmed interest in Robert Lewandowski. Recent reports suggest Manchester United are set to launch a new campaign for the Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.
The Spaniard’s contract will end this summer, which is why Athletic Bilbao are keen on selling him now rather than lose him for free.
