Sir Alex Ferguson ready to break the bank for Celticís Victor Wanyama
Manchester United are getting serious about bringing Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson personally went to check on Victor Wanyama on a night when the 21-year-old Kenyan scored a goal and played a central role in Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Dundee United at Glasgow.
Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted in the crowd at Parkhead with his traditional attire as Celtic thrashed their opponents to acquire a memorable win. The Scotsman was away from his squad, who are preparing for their FA Cup fourth round clash against Fulham in Qatar.
According to reports, Sir Alex Ferguson has become a huge fan of the young central midfielder, who arrived at Celtic from Belgian outfit Beerschot in 2011. Victor Wanyama has become the heart of Celtic midfield since his arrival at the club. The Kenyan has played a crucial role in helping Celtic qualify to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Manchester United will have to pry Victor Wanyama from the grasps of Celtic manager Neil Lennon. The Parkhead boss believes that few realize the true potential of Victor Wanyama. Arsenal are the only other club battling with Manchester United for Victor Wanyama’s signature.
Just last week, Celtic tagged Victor Wanyama with a £25 million price tag. In spite of the exaggerated price Manchester United were ready to sit at the table for negotiations. This shows that the Premier League leaders are eager to sign in the sturdy midfielder.
“If a bigger and more productive club came in and the offer is right then we will seriously look at it,” Neil Lennon told the Scottish Daily Record earlier this week.
“I don't want to stop their progress. I will shake his hand and say 'good luck to you son'. Just so long as we get about £25 million.
“Obviously, the longer we leave it, the more vulnerable we become or the more he is an attractive proposition for a bigger club. [But] he has another two years on his contract so we have time on our side.”
Manchester United have been after a versatile central midfielder for a while now. According to reports, Sir Alex Ferguson has lost interest in Kevin Strootman because of the hyped up price PSV has been quoting.
