Six on One
by Exley
6/12/08

There is an old golf adage that goes - a lot of great rounds start with a bogey. Well, perhaps. But how many start with a double? That's what Tiger just recorded on his first hole of this year's US Open. Drive in the left rough, chop it out, wedge it over the green, chip to five feet and two-putt. Not exactly impressive. But not even I (and I am not known for my steely determination) am willing to quit after one hole. Another way to consider such a start is this - every player in the field, even the winner, will make a double this week; Tiger got his out of the way early.

Having said that, however, I would not bet on Tiger this week. I wouldn't bet against him of course, this man who plays upon Elysian Fields here on Earth, but I think he's as likely to be Obama's Vice President as the 2008 US Open Champion.
