Skip Prosser, Wake Forest Basketball Coach, Has Died of a Heart Attack

More tragic news from the collegiate coaching ranks and the world of sports.

Rivals.com is reporting from several sources that Wake Forest basketball coach Skip Prosser has died of a heart attack.

Rivals.com has learned Wake Forest basketball coach Skip Prosser collapsed and died Thursday morning. Prosser, the 2003 ACC coach of the year, was 291-146 in 14 seasons as a head coach and 126-68 over his six seasons at Wake Forest.

Prosser is also the only coach to lead three different schools to the NCAA tournament in his first year as coach. A extremely good coach at that. Big loss for the NCAA.

Horrible news for his family and the Wake community. Thoughts go out to the entire family.

I am probably more shocked then anyone here, when I read the story my knees starting shaking, I was in shock and was almost crying. I have met Skip before and he was a great guy. This is one of the most tragic stories of the year. Prayers go out to his family and this is very sad.

I have met Skip also.  He was a fantastic person.  It is well-known how much he cared about his players.  He loved my school, and I always hoped he would be affiliated with us someday.  God Bless him and his family.

I met skip in high school when he came to speak to my class as the head coach of Xavier University.  Great man who loved the kids he coached.  Thoughts and prayers to his family.

did he have health problems?  If not, the stress of coaching might have been a factor.  I'm kind of shocked that most NCAA BBall coaches haven't had heart attacks because they get so stressed out.

I take a hiatus from FanIQ during the summer, usually after the NBA playoffs mainly because the only things that I are the last couple games of the Finals, pre-season football, and the LLWS. Because of that I am incredibly late on this, but to show my respects...
I clearly remember when I saw this on Mike and Mike the day after it happened and thinking why I did not hear this the day before. I am not Wake Forest fan for clear reasons, but this year I will not cheer for them, but truly hope that they win the ACC tournament this season. Still going for the Tar Heels for the regular season title though.

Rest In Peace, Skip. A true great coach and great man.
