The new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has hailed his squad, insisting he has the best team in the Premier League. The Chilean tactician is optimistic about winning back the league title from archrivals Manchester United next season.

Pellegrini has spent nearly £90 million on improving his squad; mostly in the attacking department. After spending a fortune on signing in players, the former Malaga manager now has Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic in his squad.

After spending a miserable campaign in the England and Europe last season, Manchester City is finally threatening to break European powers. Manchester City lost the Premier League title to Manchester United, got kicked out from the Champions League in the group stages and somehow managed to face defeat at the hands of relegated-side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final.

It certainly was one of worst results in Manchester City’s history, partly to be blamed on ill-timed injuries and out of form players. Nonetheless, Pellegrini is confident about setting sail towards a victorious year.

“I think we have the best squad in England. We bought four important players, we already had a very good team and with these four players I think we improved a lot,” Pellegrini told reporters at Manchester City’s awards night.

“We have been working very hard in pre-season, and we have another nine days before we start the Premier League. We hope that from the first match against Newcastle at home we will start winning, and we will try to bring another trophy here.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes his team is able to contend for the most prestigious silverware the football community can offer. The Belgian international insist “the sky is the limit” for his team, but all players should show determination to acquire success.

“I think every single player here is buying into the culture of this club,” Kompany said. “The sky is the limit. We are working so hard for us to achieve everything.

“We are dying to come back and start this season, we’ve got so much to prove and we’re all looking forward to it. We’ve got a great team; I really think that at the end of this year we are going to achieve what we are setting out to with our targets.”
