The U.S. national soccer team climbed to the 32nd spot in the monthly FIFA World Rankings following victories against Jamaica and Mexico in September. The U.S. national soccer team took a big jump in the ranking after grabbing two victories against Jamaica in the World Cup qualifier last month.

FIFA later revealed that the October ranking was based on 136 international matches played around the world during September. The 136 international matches included 76 World Cup qualifiers. The World Cup qualifiers weigh more heavily in the ranking of the 207 national soccer teams recognized by FIFA.

The U.S. national soccer team fell to its worst ranking in July when they were ranked 36th. Since then, the U.S. national soccer team has recorded two victories and a draw to jump up four spots.

The semifinal round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers will end for the U.S. national soccer team following encounters with 106th ranked Antigua and Barbuda and 81st ranked Guatemala. The matches are scheduled for October 12 and 16, respectively.

Meanwhile, the World Champion’s Spain remained No. 1 in the FIFA World Rankings. Germany is placed second in the rankings and Portugal is third. Argentina is ranked fourth, but England is breathing down their necks at fifth place just a few points away.

Colombia stunned everyone by accumulating 13 points which consequently helped them break into the Top 10.  The next FIFA World Rankings will be released on November 7.
