So, Was it Inside the Cylinder Or Out?

Last nights Heat/Magic game ended with some excitement and a little bit of controversy as Dwayne Wade's shot ends up a little short, and Michael Beasley comes in to clean up the mess, dunking it home with just 1.6 seconds left and the 99-98 lead. If you haven't seen the shot and put-back, watch the video above.

I'm still honestly undecided. I've watched this a good 20 times tonight, and I'm as clueless as I was originally.

In reality, this play shouldn't have been that big of a difference, as Jason Williams missed both of his free throws with about 10 seconds left in the game to keep the difference to just one for the Magic.

But regardless, it still should be argued - was Beasley inside or outside the cylinder when he dunked Wade's miss?

We can't go back and change the result so in that sense you're right that it doesn't matter.  However, if it in the cylinder its offensive goaltending and the Magic won the game.  It makes a big difference whether it was in the cylinder or not.

Don't think it matters either way.  If it's in, it's in and points to the Wade.  If it's out, Beasley dunk and points to Bees.  Either way, Miami gets 2 out of it.

I think it was out and it was a good (within the rules) dunk.

When I saw it life I thought the basket should have counted.  The more replays and agles I saw did not change my mind.  I didn't want it to be good, but alas I had to walk away agonizing over a 1 point loss.  OUCH!

To me it looks like its in the cylinder, but that's not a very good angle.  Of course, I'm sure that's why the NBA choose it for their official highlight.

It was clearly an air ball or another assist for Wade...   :-)
