We'll all remember Sammy Sosa's appearance before Congress back in 2005 when he was asked to testify about his own suspected steroid use, and how pervasive it was around Major League Baseball. When Sosa's time came to speak, he suddenly forgot how to speak English. Not even the best comics could produce as many laughs. Swingin' Sammy became proficient at the English language throughout his 60+ home run seasons, especially during the memorable 1998 chase with Mark McGwire.
Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Juan Carlos Navarro was definitely watching back in 2005 and thought he'd try it out on the American journalists during the Olympics.
After Spain was pounded by the Americans Saturday, Navarro welcomed interviews with the foreign media, but when it came time for the Boston Globe's Marc Spears to have a turn, the Spanish guard had a case of brief amnesia.
“My English not very good.”
Nor is his brain. Navarro failed to consider that Spears has probably covered basketball before, you know, say in this little league called the NBA. Spears offered this quick retort:“Well, it was really good when you were playing for the Grizzlies. I interviewed you once by your locker.”
Zing! Navarro didn't have anything else to say, other than to offer a look that admitted he'd been burnt worse than he was an hour prior against Dwyane Wade.
