World Cup Lite comes to an end today as Spain faces off against Germany in the Euro 2008 Championship. There could be some key players missing for both teams. David Villa of Spain, and the leading goal scorer of the tournament, is expected to miss the game because of a pulled hamstring and Germany's captain Michael Ballack is a game time decision with a calf injury.
Spain has been dominant throughout the tournament with the exception of their one game against Italy, which they won on penalty kicks. Although, you could easily blame that on the fact that the Italians basically decided to throw a 8-1-1 at the high scoring Spanish squad.
Meanwhile, Germany has walked a tightrope to get the championship, having beaten favored Portugal in the quarterfinals 3-2 and squeaking past a very game Turkey squad by the same score in the semifinals. The good thing about having Germany in the championship is they seem to have a flair for producing incredibly exciting games.
If you put a gun to my head, I'd say Spain wins this because they've been the best team in the tournament by far. But Spain also has the annoying habit of consistently coming up small in events like this. And as we all know, anything can happen when it comes down to one game.
55% of you agree with me that Spain will come out victorious. Surprisingly someone out there thinks this game will end in a draw. Which is impossible, since it'll go to penalty kicks and someone has to win. We laugh at your shame for putting draw. Just kidding, but seriously, learn more about soccer, ok.
Anyway, it should be entertaining championship, primarily because the Italians aren't involved.
