Sports Weekend One Liners: Missouri Biggest Snub Ever
READ MORE:
Good Monday morning to you. I wanted to create a succinct post at the start of each week to wrap up any loose ends over the weekend with links to all the big stories with your participation. I also wanted another excuse to post pictures of Rachel. Hope you enjoy ...

Missouri getting hosed by the Orange Bowl is the worst snubbing (outside of the champ discussion) in the history of the supposedly numbers-based system. Second line needed: This isn't going to help the civility of the Border War at all.

Redskins Sean Taylor tribute - very cool.

Joe Gibbs Wayne Fontes Tribute - not cool.

A.J. Feeley may want to discuss Lofa Tatupu's invisible super power with the competition committee.

At least we know Hawaii wouldn't finish dead last in the Pac-10, just in the bottom third.

I'm still not over how blatantly suspect the officiating was during the West Virginia-Pittsburgh game. (What would have happened if WVU won?)

No Shanoff, Texas is not better WITHOUT Kevin Durant they've just gained a year of experience and talent collectively.

Cotton Bowl will be a great hangover cure.

No Stephon Marbury jokes this week.

Bo Pelini WILL have the Nebraska D
earning "Black Shirts" status in year one.

It was sad anyone ever compared Eli Manning to Rex Grossman.

We're sleeping on the Kansas Jayhawks basketball version through this early season.

Buckeyes will win BCS Championship.

And of course, Rachel Bilson ... you are ridiculous.

Share your weekend one liners below.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me, re: Missouri.  How did the BCS "hose" them?  The BCS had them ranked higher than Illinois and Kansas, like they should be.  The Orange Bowl CHOSE Kansas over Missouri.  They could have picked either one.  If there's anyone to blame for Missouri being hosed it's the Orange Bowl, not the BCS.  People can certainly have problems with the BCS, but I don't understand the outrage at the BCS on this one.

Good call, BCS changed to Orange Bowl.

What's disappointed for a fan of neither team is that the Orange Bowl now won't be that good of a game. VT should win by a couple TD's

And sorry for the two posts in a row, but I wanted to add my 2 cents somewhere, and there's no other place(yet).  That Texas-UCLA game was pretty awesome and easily the best game of the young college basketball season.  James and Augustin were great in that game, and the last 2 minutes were incredibly exciting.  Texas is MUCH better than I expected them to be, after already having two wins against top-10 teams already this season.

Also, the Pac 10 is up 6-5 in the Big XII-Pac 10 challenge, which has been extremely competitive (3 games have went into OT, Baylor took Wash State to the wire, UCLA-Texas, etc.).  In terms of scheduling and TV, the ACC-Big 10 challenge >>>>>>>>> Big XII-Pac 10, but in terms of good, competitive games, Big XII-Pac 10>>>>>>>>>>ACC-Big 10.

I'm not sure about that.  Kansas' defense is decent and VT's offense is suspect.  I don't think a whole lot of either team, honestly, but I think it will be closer than people are giving credit.

And the Orange Bowl/BCS comment wasn't just directed at you, fwiw.  The whole national media is saying the same thing, and I'm just wondering if I missed something.

You could put some blame on the BCS, I suppose, for allowing the bowl to choose whoever they want and blindly ignoring the better team. That's not right, IMO.

Really, though?  If the Orange Bowl thinks that Kansas is the better national story, will bring more fans, etc. that will lead to making them more money, shouldn't the Orange Bowl have the right to choose who will make them more money, after they satisfy whichever contractual tie-ins they have already agreed to?

Logistically, the outcome of the game means very little and Missouri still gets significant exposure in one of their largest recruiting areas, so I don't see why the Orange Bowl shouldn't be able to pick what's financially best for them, since they have higher picking priority.  I think that is right, personally.  Maybe it's just the conservative-free market economy side of me coming out.

With that said, I think the Orange Bowl chose poorly, but it was their right to choose poorly.

Missouri beats Kansas. Kansas gets rewarded with better bowl and more money. Tell me what's good about that? I completely agree with your point about the Orange Bowl, obviously, but I'd like a system that rewards the schools that most deserve it.

come on Fanatic............you make it sound like Missouri is the best team since sliced bread

I predict that KU will win 27-16

I think either Missouri or Kansas would have gotten tons and tons of fans to travel to their schools first big time bowl since the 60's. The Orange Bowl just wanted Kansas. Fair? Not really. It is just business. The Orange Bowl couldn't have gone wrong with either though.

It's too bad that only 2 teams from a conference can be in a BCS game.  I agree that Missouri should be in but I also think Kansas had a phenomenal year and only lost 1 game in a tough conference.  If there is a team that isn't deserving to be in the BCS, it's Illinois with 3 losses.  If Mizzou wouldn't have lost by 3 touchdowns in the Big 12 Championship game, they probably would have gotten the Orange Bowl nod.

All I really said was Missouri is better than Kansas. And Missouri lost only to what's considered one of the best teams in Oklahoma. So with the 2 teams per conference model, Kansas is the least deserving. But lucky for you and your fellow Jayhawks fans that's not how this system works.

DEJA VU...

Here in Columbia we are up in arms over this Bowl situation.  To see Kansas and Illinois in BCS Bowls is painful after beating them during the regular season on neutral fields.  As for me, personally, after my Missouri State Bears got the shaft the past two seasons in basketball and now this, I am done with anything involving computer polls.  BCS, RPI... whatever it is.  Absolutely Worthless.

I don't know who we have pissed off...  All I know is that if you are an University in Missouri... you can probably expect be on the outside looking in when it is all said and done.

I respect your opinion but still think we are better than Missouri and played our worst 3 quarters of football in that game.  It's pretty crazy when KU and MU turn up in important football discussions.

CPops,

I can't imagine how bad you and everyone else at MU feels.  MU and KU both happened to have their best football years ever.  I'm sure we can both make arguments why we deserve to be in BCS bowl games and I'm sorry that you got shafted and put in the Cotton Bowl.  Any other year, I'd be thrilled to go to the Cotton Bowl.  Hell, we didn't even go to a bowl game last year.  I really wish you would have beaten OU saturday.
