Name: TrentAge: 27
Location: Rowlett, Tx (Not far from Dallas)
Job: I share ownership of an Engineering company but I'm trying my hand in Real Estate Investing & hoping that punches my ticket to retirement at the age of 35. (Hey a guy can dream right?)
Favorite Teams: Oklahoma Sooners, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox
Least favorite teams: Texas Longhorns (pretty much any team with orange in their school colors), Notre Dame, Lakers, Yankees
Favorite sport(s) to watch: College Football, College Basketball, NFL, MLB, NASCAR, PGA
Favorite expert: Jess (FanIQ Hockey aficionado) -- this will be my kiss-up portion of the interview
Least favorite expert: Joe Theismann (what a waste of oxygen)
Favorite movie: Toughest question of all-time....but if I had to say just one I'd go with The Princess Bride, no The Great Outdoors, no Shawshank Redemption, no Braveheart, no Spaceballs.....okay The Princess Bride it is!
Favorite TV show: Does Sportscenter count? King of Queens is a good one & I've been getting into the Flip This House shows on (gulp) Home & Garden TV... (this is just between you & me right?)
Intro/Personal:
Describe your idea of the perfect day:
Tailgating all day with a few scantily clad beauties around taking in the pomp & pageantry of a College Football game (there's nothing like it). Preferably watching the Sooners pound another helpless opponent.
But I would love to spend an afternoon at Wrigley Field if anyone wants to loan me a ticket for a day, a weekend or a season...if you can find it in your heart.
Where would we find you spending a day playing hooky from class or work?
My biggest problem was when I showed up in class people thought I was sick. I've been known to spend a couple of days in a row at the Poker tables in a casino, but the best thing to miss work for is to take in a Baseball game on a sunny afternoon!
Tell us about the one day you would go back and relive from your youth:
{cue corny background music} I'd like to go back & treat people a lot nicer. I was a real egotistical jerk in my early years. (no comments from people that still think that please)
You have on your profile that Wild Thing is your nickname. Care to elaborate, or do we want to know?
That started when I was in High School (strictly for on the field reasons I swear!) because I often played at high speeds & threw my body around quite a bit, my football coach called me reckless abandon, but Wild Thing was easier to say. They actually would play that song on the loudspeakers when I'd enter the basketball games.
When I started racing, my first year was pretty rocky considering I spent more time on my lid than on all 4 wheels. So the name came back into play, & now it's lettered on my car! I think I do pretty much everything full speed.
Sports:
I see you attended University of Oklahoma. What was your favorite moment as a Sooners fan?
Back to back NCAA Men's gymnastics championships....I could barely get that out without laughing, no offense to all you gymnasts out there, I couldn't do what you do.
No seriously, that's easy. The 2000 BCS Nat'l Championship game. I attended the Orange Bowl & it was awesome to be there as OU stamped its name back among the College Elite where it belongs.
I also see you’re a NASCAR fan by all of the polls you create; do you remember what sparked your interest in the sport?
Believe it or not, I'm not as big a fan as it may seem. I like to keep track of the sport, but I don't watch every lap. I mostly create polls to give everyone on that part of the site something to do. There are tons of polls from lots of good people now, but there used to not be much when I started. Plus, I like hanging out there because the group of people that are regulars are great! Like a 5th family.
You’re pretty big into Fantasy Football. FF player to FF player, is there any advice you’d give come draft time (besides ‘DON’T take Shaun Alexander’)?
(laughs), I'm glad you remembered that. Luckily some fool before me took the aged one before my pick came up. I ended up with Frank Gore & some guy named Adrian Peterson, not a bad pick-up.
I've always been a RB RB guy early but I think times are changing a little with so many teams going to Running back by committee. If you can't get one of the Top tier 5 or 6 backs, then I would go QB in the 1st round now (never thought I'd hear myself say that).
Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, Ryne Sandberg & that Jordan guy wasn't half bad. If more Pro's had the humbleness of Barry Sanders, the sporting world would be a much better place.
We all have that moment as a kid, usually the first thing we remember that turns us into sports fans. What was yours?
I started playing tackle football at the age of 4 & tee ball. I moved to machine pitch by the age of 6 so I got an early start to my sports career. I've always been the type that would rather be involved than watch someone else but my first fan experience was when my dad took me to an OU scrimmage in either 85' or 86'.
The players on the field were instant idols. Jamelle Hollieway, Keith Jackson, Brian Bozworth, Tony Casillas....it was impossible not to fall in love with OU football! I remember going onto the field after the scrimmage (you could actually do that back then) & playing a game with a bunch of other kids......I was HOOKED!
If you had your choice to attend any sporting event, anywhere, what would it be?
The Masters (I've been there twice & I'd go every year if the opportunity is there.)
Besides college sports, you have a wide variety of favorites; MLB, golf, NASCAR, NHL... What was the most exciting moment in any of these ever, for you?
Seeing Dale Jr. winning his first NASCAR race @ Texas was cool. But watching Boston sweep the Cards to win the WS was amazing! That moment can only be topped if the Cubs win it all.
What was your most disappointing moment as a sports fan?
Watching OU get spanked in the Orange Bowl vs. USC. That OU team was one of the greatest of all-time & they put up a clunker in that game. The secondary couldn't find their butts with both hands. But I still say those two teams could play 10 times & it would be pretty even. That score was more of a fluke than anything. Since then, bowl season has been a complete embarrassment every year.
Do you have any of your own sports superstitions/rituals when you watch your teams or play a game? If so, what are they?
I have a hat that I've wore to every football game since that 2000 season. It's been dropped on the ground & left in the snow & ice, it's stiff as a board these days, but it still fits.
Randomness:
You and your favorite celebrity or sports figure, current or past, are going out to dinner at your favorite restaurant. Who is it, and where are you going?
I'd grab a burger & a beer at the turn of Pebble Beach while I was playing a round of golf with Michael Jordan (the greatest competitor of all-time).
You find a Genie’s lamp and are granted three wishes; what are they?
1. Happiness
2. Health for me & family
3. Cubs win the World Series (that would be one special genie to make that happen)
Who would play you in a movie about your life; and why that person?
Tom Cruise (I've been told I look like him) + it would be like a Mission Impossible to play my life)
FanIQ:
How did you find FanIQ?
I honestly can't remember. I guess I clicked on one of the great recruiter's (Ryan) links when I was on a message board or something. For those who hate me.....blame Ryan!
What is your favorite feature on the site? (Blog, polls, trivia, quizzes, etc.)
I'm a big fan of the [personal] blogs. I think that's the best addition this site has had since I've been here. I'm going to make an effort to start blogging a LOT more, especially when the Baseball season starts. I just can't get motivated for NBA.
What is the most bizarre Locker Room poll you’ve ever seen?
Any time you see a Locker Room poll that doesn't involve sex, it's bizarre, (laughs)! None really come to mind right now.
What’s your favorite poll that you, yourself, created?
I created a poll last march that was the FanIQ version of the Greatest athlete of all-time. It was a bracket style that started with 64....I think Muhammad Ali ended up winning but I can't remember for sure.
Have you made any good friends on the Q?
I wouldn't say good friends, because I think a person can only have a few really good friends in their life, but I've met a lot of great people on the site. People that would be fun to hang out with.
Kerri is a great person & she is pretty much nice to everyone & one of the 1st people you meet on the Q. Shell (USCgirlzrock...that's Cocks btw not Trojans hahaha) is really nice too....I like all you ladies that dig your sports -- that's pretty sexy! Gene (Dodge #9) & Scott seem like cool guys, even though Gene has a dark side to him....I think he may be a serial killer in his spare time (have you seen his sword collection?) Jason (CF), Ryan, & Harden (Flousc) seems like guys that know their sports & teams that I could be friends with. Jess (Ilovecy) is a huge Cyclones fan, so she is just an easy target to pick on....I get a kick outta that. In short (I mean long) everyone on the Q is freakin awesome!
FanIQ isn’t known as “the home of bold predictions” for nothing…we’ll end this interview with one. What do you think your Cubbies will do this season?
The Cubs are on the right track. I am still holding out hope that they pull a deal for Brian Roberts so they have a true leadoff. I'd like to see Soriano slide down in the lineup where he belongs. Roberts would also improve them defensively. If they get him, & if psycho Zambrano is somewhat consistently good, then the Cubs will compete for the Pennant. I certainly see them winning the NL Central even without Roberts, but the Mets will be tough to beat. I'm predicting a Tigers/Mets Series this year with the Tigers winning it all.
If the Cubs can hold the pieces together, keep Lou around, & add a key piece here & there they will win the Series in the next few years though. Mark it down.......or wait another 100 years, I don't care!
Thank you for taking the time to let us get to know you a little better, Trent! (And as for kissing up part...I hope that's all that was, because I think you found out last year just how much you can trust my expertise - not even a little bit.) I hope everyone enjoys reading your replies as much as I have!
