Spotlight Fan of the Week - EdSpeshel
Bringing forth FanIQ's greatest asset every Monday - you! This week we get to know someone you've no doubt given a "Funny" accolade or few to in the forums, and you probably have a high-five from him somewhere in your shout outs for a job well done. Jason, aka Badunka Thunk...aka EdSpecial

Name: Jason aka Badunka Thunk
Age: 32
Location: Minnesnowta
Job: Auto Worker for Ford Motor Co. (We build the Ranger and Mazda trucks)
Favorite Teams: All teams that are Minnesota.
Least favorite teams: Dallas Stars, Lakers, Packers, White Sox
Favorite sports to watch: Football/Hockey
Favorite expert: I don't really pay to much attention to those guys but I do get a kick out of Barry Melrose.
Least favorite expert: None really... they all kind of blend together to me.
Favorite movie: Army of Darkness(Evil Dead III) with Dumb and Dumber right behind.
Favorite TV show: Sports mostly but I do watch Lost with Nellie

Personal:
Tell us a little about your Q names; both your screen name and the first name you have displayed on your profile:
EdSpeshel was a name I thought was "clever" I didn't think everyone would assume my name was really Ed.  Badunka Thunk... yeah I should switch it from Bondage Slut... ya know... that whole PG-13 thing.

I hear you’re something of a Trader Joe – what’s one of the best things you’ve ever received in a transaction, that you regretted getting rid of for something of less value?
I traded my 1981 Buick Regal with a blown Chevy 350 for a '97 Polaris SKS 700 which I turned around and traded for an '87 F-250 4x4 with a rebuilt 351.  Non running car for a running but older sled for a running heavy duty truck.  Gotta love Craigslist.

If given the chance, what *one* day you would go back and relive from your youth:
There are a few but there was a day that I was supposed to try out for track and field and I ended up screwing around with my pals and never did it.  I've always regretted not doing that.

You have two young boys – tell us your favorite funny story about one or both of them that you’ll use to embarrass them when they’re older:
Sounds lame but I don't want to embarrass them when they get older... I know how bad it is being a teenage boy... they'll get enough of that on their own.

(O.K. very sweet answer, but that's not gonna cut it...Kid story and pic provided by Sports_Schmorts)...

We were eating fettuccine for dinner and Jack came out of the kitchen blowing his nose a little and putting his finger up his nose.  He came to Nellie and said that his nose hurt and kept trying to blow something out.  When she looked in his nose she saw what looked like end of a noodle, so she had him blow his nose.  After a few minutes, a 5 inch fettuccine noodle came out of his nose.

Cliché:
Describe your idea of the perfect day:
With or without my wife?  Haha naww, my perfect day would be: Sleep in, wake up to my wife nudging me and giving me "the look"... so I roll over, stop snoring, and go back to sleep.  Get up, get the boys ready, and head out to the beach.  Play in the water, have the Twins game on the radio and Nellie up on the blanket reading her book.  Twins win.  Pack up, go home, and get cleaned up... the wife gives me "the look" again... so I take out the garbage.  We pack into the car and head out to Braden's baseball game.  While Jack and I are catching grasshoppers and tossing a ball around, Braden is going 5-5 with 3 dingers and winning the game MVP(scoring him an extra ticket to the concession stand).  Pack up, head home, and fire up the grill.  Couple steaks, couple brats, couple beers.  Clean up, head inside, boys get a bath.  Put the boys to bed while Nellie does whatever wives do to get ready for bed.  I crawl into bed and turn on SportsCenter.  Nellie comes out, crawls into bed next to me, and gives me "the look" again... so I get up, take a shower, shave, and brush my teeth.  Then I proceed to crawl back into bed where it's "lights out".

Where would we find you spending a day playing hooky from work?

Umm... again does my wife know?  On the few occasions that I have played hooky, I usually come home.  I like to pick up the boys from school or just spend time with Nellie (without the kids;))

You find a Genie’s lamp and are granted three wishes; what are they?
1.My kids to be happy healthy and accomplish whatever their goals are in life.
2. Nellie to be happy WITHOUT leaving me.
3. Oh yeah having the Vikings not only win a Super Bowl but to do it over the Packers (hey it's my wish right).

If you had to choose five CD’s to listen to for the rest of your life, which five would you choose?

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power, Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled, Blood for Blood - Livin in Exile, Run DMC - Raising Hell, Megadeth - Rust in Peace, Metallica - And Justice For All... I guess I'm kind of a metalhead.  I like rap as much as the next suburban white guy but metal is my home.

Who would play you in a movie about your life; and why that person?

I would like it to be someone no one has ever heard of... most Hollywood types bug me.

Sports:
You love a wide variety of sports; NFL, NHL, MMA, MLB, NCAA Hockey, NBA, NCAAF... Besides championships, what was the most exciting moment in any of these ever, for you?
When I was about 11 my dad was waiting with my brother and I outside the Metrodome trying to get some autographs.  Out walks Kent Hrbek (one of our favorite players and also one of 5 numbers the Twins have retired).  All the kids rush up to him with their cards and balls for him to sign except me and my brother.  Mr. Hrbek sees this and walks over to me, puts his hand on my head, and says "the line starts here".  I thought I was the coolest kid on the block for about a month after that.

What was your most disappointing moment as a sports fan?
'98 NFC title game, no question.  I don't want to talk about it anymore.

I guess I don’t have to ask what made you a fan of any of your teams; you definitely keep it local. So, when did you first start watching MMA, who are your favorites, and why?
I've been watching MMA since UFC 2 or 3.  My favorite fighters are the ones that like to lay it all out there and take chances.  Dan Henderson is one of my favorites because he fights anyone.  He's a light heavyweight but he'll fight down a class or he'll fight heavyweights.

Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Kirby Puckett by far.

We all have that moment as a kid, usually the first thing we remember that turns us into sports fans. What was yours?
I was born a sports fan... it's my dads fault.  I was 8 or so when my dad brought me to my first "real" game.  When I first walked into the dome from the concourse and looked out onto the field (from the upper deck center-field seats) and saw how big that field was, I was hooked.  Baseball was my favorite sport until 1994.

If you had your choice to attend any sporting event, anywhere, what would it be?
Is my team involved? I'm going with the World Series.  Baseball isn't my favorite sport but the World Series is awesome.

Just for fun let's say you could be the GM of any team and make one transaction (trade, add/drop, etc) ... who would you be and what move would you make?
I wouldn't want that job ever for any team but if I had to I would be the GM of the Patriots and trade Tom Brady just for the heck of it.

FanIQ:
How did you find FanIQ?
I found a link in one of the message boards over at The Sporting News.  I thought it was spam but i figured what the heck... boy what a mistake that was!

What is your favorite feature on the site? (Blog, polls, trivia, quizzes, etc.)
I'm here for the polls but I like "hanging out" in the Locker Room too.

What is the most bizarre Locker Room poll you’ve ever seen?
I think there was one Sports_Schmorts did awhile back with 4 hot chicks that you had to choose from.  After a bunch of guys chose and made a few comments she changed all the pics to guys.  It was pretty funny to go back and read what everyone wrote.

What’s your favorite poll that you, yourself, created?

My What's your Favorite/Best Pick up Line.  The responses to that had me laughing pretty good.

Have you made any good friends on the Q?

Sure I have but I really only talk to a few and I might start stalking Lobotomy Jones.

We all know how much you love to high-five everyone on their latest awards. How do you keep up with it all?
I'm a high fivin' machine.  I've narrowed it down to people with 100 or less TU's and all the other awards with that.  It's kind of nice to get recognized for things like that, especially if you are new.  At least I thought it was.

What’s the boldest prediction you’ve ever made, and did it turn out?
Lately, it was the Giants over the Pats.  The big one before that was Boise St. over Oklahoma.

Speaking of bold predictions, let’s sign off with one. What do you think your Wild will do in the post season?
If we win the division (which it looks like we'll do) I like our chances to get to the Western Conference Championship series... as long as we can steer clear of the Ducks... stinkin Ducks.

Thanks for your time, Jason - and for everything you do on the site! And good luck to your Wild this post season (kind of)!

I'm not going to comment on that poll your wife did, that brought back some hilarious memories from when I first joined.
