This will be one hell of a March in the sports world, especially the Western Conference in the NBA. One slip could drop you to the end of the bracket, a 8-2, 9-1, or double-digit win streak surge could send you to the top. So many teams made big moves to remove San Antonio off the throne. Los Angeles brought in Pau Gasol, who has been playing well. Hornets brought in Bonzi Wells. Suns traded Marion for Shaq. So... how can the Spurs hold their ground? Kurt Thomas. That helps a lot. Thomas has great defense in the post, and can team up with Duncan to par up with Amare and Shaq. With Bowen and Parker/Gino all over Nash, that i'd declare another heartbreaker for the Suns. That brings in the Lakers. Kobe frustrated by Bowen and Ime Udoka. Duncan covers Gasol, Thomas on Odom. Gino stays hot on top of that? Sorry L.A. Hornets... well... uh... Hornets. Yeah.
March's Things to look for:
- Can the Spurs notch a double-digit win streak? If they trump Atlanta and Dallas next Thursday, top NJ twice and Milwaukee, they will be on a 10-game streak.
- Can the Spurs secure homecourt, or a #1 or #2 seed? If they continue to play at this 9-1 level of basketball against all teams, then yes. They have been playing much better on the road. If they pull out their averages, they should finish around 57-25.
Key Games for March:
- 9th- @ Phoenix- They didn't like how we entered and won last time, let's see how we get it done with Shaq on the floor with the Suns.
- 10th- Vs. Denver- Big back-to-back. After Phoenix, will they have the energy to trump AI and Melo?
- 14th- @ Detroit- Big game. Another possible Finals match.
- 17th- Vs. Boston- Payback time? This will be a statement game for both teams.
- 23rd- @ Dallas- Mavericks are having a tough season. They'll definately try to turn it up on their home game here.
- 30th- Vs. Rockets- This season series has been almost even. Spurs look to trump the Rockets at home to close out March.
Chris' Prediction:
- Spurs go 13-5 in March to raise record to (if def. Dallas and Atlanta) 52-22.
- Spurs will at least at a point, hold the #1 seed in March. I expect them to stay in the top 4 seeds throughout the month.
- Kurt Thomas will excel on defense, and the Spurs will hold opponents under 92 PPG in the month of March.
