The San Antonio Spurs started off their annual rodeo road trip in high spirits and with right amount of motivation on the back of 10 straight wins on Tuesday, travelling to Minnesota for next day’s game against the Timberwolves.
The San Antonio Spurs currently lead the league with 38-11 record and have a won all but two games at hope while expanding their success into rival territories too. Although in mid-December the San Antonio Spurs suddenly dropped four of their five road games that month, it didn’t take them long to grab the reigns and take back control with no slip ups, building to a 15-9 road record. And now, they hope to extend that steak on a 9-game road trip, by kicking off at the Target Center on Saturday.
During the past 10 years since the San Antonio Spurs began the annual rodeo road trip, the team holds a 58-24, accounting to a winning percentage of .707. Over the same time, the San Antonio Spurs have held a .585 winning percentage for the remaining road games in those seasons.
It could be difficult without All-Stars Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. The San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is dealing with a left hamstring injury due to which he is listed doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Manu Ginobili, has already missed nine games this season due to injuries and he couple miss a few more while coming back from the latest injury.
Meanwhile Tim Duncan took injuries to the leg in a hard fall during Saturday’s win over the Washington Wizards. An MRI of Tim Duncan’s left knee and right ankle injuries came out negative on Monday. The 36-year-old Tim Duncan is still listed day-to-day. The four-time NBA champion could also end up missing some time due to the injuries since San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popvich wouldn’t risk injury by playing Tim Duncan and having him sidelined for a whole while longer.
In Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili’s absence, the San Antonio Spurs could get an opportunity to showcase their depth on the rodeo road trip. The San Antonio Spurs have a lot of options to fill in for Manu Ginobili at the guard spot. Additionally, the San Antonio Spurs also called up recently added Aaron Baynes to fill in for Tim Duncan. Greg Popvich could put up Aaron Baynes for some solid minutes to prove his capabilities.
In the end the San Antonio Spurs may not have a lot to worry about Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan’s injuries, since they don’t seem too serious. Both players could be back to full health within a few games and possibly back on the floor during the rodeo road trip, which takes up the bulk of San Antonio Spurs’ February schedule.
