Steelers Beat Dolphins 3-0 in Worst.Game.Ever

The weather and what is referred to as a 'playing surface' combined forces to shutout both teams for 59 minutes and 46 seconds. Jeff Reed chipped in a short field goal for the only points. I've been searching for the appropriate words to describe this game and they don't exist.

Is it that difficult to maintain grass in Pittsburgh? I'm certain I've played some backyard football in mud that provided better conditions that Heinz Field tonight.

Steelers are fortunate enough to just get out with a win and no injuries. Time to move on. As for the Dolphins, well they suck about as much as this game. There's nothing more to say. Ugh. Looking forward to getting the bad taste in our mouths Thursday night with actual football.

That was the worst game I've ever seen, and I've watched a lot of Cardinals games.

I'm sure many excuses (starting with the field) will be used for this Steelers team being so pathetic, but I'd just like to say that this team is still no less of a fraud. I can't wait for them to play a good team...just one. They're going to get destroyed.

Might that good team you are referring to be your favorite team the Patriots .

Well, they did beat the Browns twice. The Browns are 7-2 against teams not from Pittsburgh, with one of those losses against the Patriots. I'd have to say those are two quality wins.

The Browns also have an abysmal defense, and a pathetic running game. Shut down Derek Anderson, and they're helpless. They may have a decent record, but they're still not a very good team.

And incidentally, the Browns' only "quality win" is against the Seahawks...who seem to be EVERYONE's only quality win...which makes me question their quality...

That was the most quality comment ever.

Classic Pat.

The Patriots are better than the Steelers. Get over it.

Nobody has quality wins except the Patriots.

I don't need to hear about the Pats. I know all about them and how good they are. I'm just looking for someone, anyone, to admit that this Steelers team really isn't all that good. Probably won't happen, but it would be refreshing to hear someone be honest about it, even if they ARE a Steelers fan, or if their mancrush is the Steelers' QB.

I love your clever wit, but I've never tried to say anything of the sort. But when a team loses to the Jets, Cardinals and Broncos, there should be some big wins somewhere in there to offset that, if people want to refer to them as an elite team. And sorry, but I'm just not seeing it.

Define "good". They are 8-3. What is the saying? You are what your record says you are?

Who said the Steelers were a great team?

They're decent. Probably the 5th or 6th in the NFL. That's all. I think you see them as a legit threat to the Patriots and thus this Steelers trashing has resumed.

Name one team that they have beaten that could win a division not named "West".

Feel free to just scratch the surface and look at their record alone. But I believe you're only better than the caliber of the teams you beat. Which would make the Steelers VERY average.

According to your comments in various threads, there really aren't any good teams other than the Patriots. Perhaps you consider the Dolphins, Packers and Colts good, but after that there is no one.

Since those four teams have yet to play Pittsburgh, I'm not sure what to say. There's are a whole slew of teams who don't have any good wins under this scenario. What they lack is consistency, but they are definitely in the next group of teams after those mentioned above. Wouldn't you agree?

And you do have to wash this game from the record. It's unfortunate if you can't see that, but naturally you'll use it to claim "fraud."

I'm glad you think that.

If the Steelers keep the game within 2 TD's against the Pats, I will blog all about Big Ben's greatness.

I don't expect anything in return when the Pats smoke the Steelers, because as an objective sports journalist, you'll be obligated to talk all about how great the Pats are anyway, and that won't stop any time soon. I see no need to try to punish you further.

One game doesn't define a players greatness.

If the Patriots beat the Steelers they'll do exactly what they should have done. What else would there be to say?

Pat; you're making a pre-argument before anyone even said anything...Honestly; where did you see on here, or did you hear on ESPN that Pitt is now "Elite"?

Seriously...calm down...it's fair to call them good, an 8-3 record shows that -- it doesn't honestly matter who they beat, its still 8-3.
As far as this thread, or the live game thread; I don't see one person saying anything more than above-average to good for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cowboys, Packers and Colts are very good football teams. The Chargers and the Jaguars are good, and have shown flashes of being very good. After that, there is a large dropoff, imo. Some of the others have played some good games here and there, but I wouldn't say they are good teams.

Well, I gave you the Browns and you dismissed them out of hand. You also dismissed the 7-4 Seahawks. You don't like an 8-3 team and two 7-4 teams...that doesn't leave a whole lot. I guess all they can do is beat the Colts, Pats, Cowboys, or Packers. But taking your approach, other than the Giants, the Cowboys haven't beaten anyone either! The Packers would be in even worse shape since their only quality win would be the Giants also, but one less time than the Cowboys beat them. Well, we can write off the Giants since as you stated about the Seahawks, it seems like everyone's sole good win is against them, meaning the Cowboys and Packers have beaten nobody!

Whew! See how insane this kind of is? We are down to only the Pats and Colts being the only teams worth a damn. I wrote off Jacksonville because their best win is against Tampa, whose best win is against Tennessee, who obviously isn't the Colts or the Pats.

Hell, let's cancel the rest of the season. There's only two good teams and they've already played each other.

uhm...I'm not trying to start a war here and I'm DEFINITELY not trying to say that the Seahawks are elite (at this point I can't even say the two words in a sentence with a straight face) - but how can "everyone's" quality win be over the Seahawks if we've only lost 4 games? (Maybe "only" isn't a good word here, but obviously it's not "everyone")

....................pay no attention to the 4 wins in the corner (over the Niners and Rams) . On second thought - forget this post. I know this team isn't "quality" this year. We'll get there though.

This is obviously a different year, in that outside of the top 5 most of the league is a joke.  That said, the Steelers are definitely in that top 5.  Regardless of how few points the Steelers scored, they still shutout a team that the Patriots didn't.  I'm not in anyway insinuating that the Steelers are anywhere as good as the Pats, but their defense is undoubtedly elite.  That alone can make a great team.

You over-rate the Chargers...

Well all this being said the Dolphins have now lost a new franchise record (breaking their own record) 6 games by 3 points.

I am excited to see the team in two to three years. Yes I said it two to three years. I am a  realist not a blind fan that says win now.

They looked bad but not as bad as they could have looked. Beck looked good for his 2nd start and against his second team that loves to blitz.

He hasn't taken a delay of game penalty in his two starts on the road. He hasn't thrown a  pick and has been sacked twice and lost one fumble on a great effort by Harrisson last night. To me that is impressive for a Miami QB. Others on here will laugh at me for being a Dolphins fan and what my team is doing on the field. But in all honesty I don't care because I know they are setting themselves up for a good future. The most improved offensive line outside of the Browns is the Dolphins.

Some of you might think last night's game was the worst ever but it was a great learning experience for the young players on the team.

That's why I can't help but think that this Dolphins team WILL pull off a win eventually this season. They've come so close too many times.

I watched the whole game, and I was being selfish rooting for my fantasy  players in that game vs the ones that the guy I was going against had.   He had Rothlesberger and Heath Miller and I was fighting with Pittsburgh's defense and their kicker Josh Reed.   Pitt had 2 fumble recoveries and Redd hit a FG where Ben had an ok game but Heath didnt do much.   Another thing, I love Reed's self photo.   Dude looks higher than a kite!

This is where i differ from most NFL fans, I actualy enjoyed this game! i love watching a scoreless game! I am a big deffensive buff and when two teams hold each other to no points until the 4th quarter (terrible conditions or not) it is still very well performed!

There's a difference between a game where two D's play great, and a game where both teams flat out can't do anything because of awful weather.  I can enjoy a hard fought defensive showdown, but that game last night was brutal IMO.

Did you watch the game? Because there really wasn't any good defense at all...

why do all these threads have to end up being about the Pats? We all know they are good...blah blah blah...stop talking about them and maybe this season will go away very fast.

Then the devil will come and take the souls of Tom Brady and Randy Moss, as they obviously sold them to the Kurt Warner devil a few months ago.

well i saw Ben get sacked about 5 times, i think both Miami and Pitts had an INT (i am not 100% sure) but those are defensive plays in my book

Yeah, holding a team to under 150 yards of offense is horrible, what kind of D does that. Problem with New England fans is that you guys think your so great you like the just cut down every other team. The Steelers are not an elite team, and you heard it from a Steeler fan. Ben holds the ball too much and gets sacked because of it. But he along with a couple other key players (Polamalu, Taylor, Harrison) seem to have on off switches, and if they all click together then the team looks elite. They are spotty at best, but when they do all play together, they are a team to watch out for.
The weather was bad luck.

For everyone saying they should have looked at the forecast and saw this ahead of time, I live in Pittsburgh, no where in the forecast did it call for monsoon like conditions and lightning in Novemeber. It was supposed to be a fall shower. The rain came at the worst time right after laying down the new sod, giving it drainage problems, but if they didn't lay it down there would have been even worse conditions with the mud from the wipial and pitt games.

you honestly want to believe the lack of offense was not weather related.  that was the lowest scoring game on monday night football and one of the lowest scoring games in the history of the NFL.  I think the weather had everything to do with the defense being played.

11/28/07

I never said it didn't, but saying that a game that ended 0-3 did not have any good defense regardless of the weather is stupid.

If it would have gone to OT it would have been the longest scoreless game. Breaking a game in I think they said 1943 that ended 0-0 tie.

Dang Jeff Reed couldn't miss just to get the Dolphins another horrible record for the '07 season.
