The New England Patriots’ offer sheet is reportedly for two-years, worth $2.5 million, whereas the Pittsburgh Steelers had place an original round-tender on Emmanuel Sanders, offering him to comeback for one-year with $1.323 million in salary.
The New England Patriots have a need at receiver after losing Wes Welker to the Denver Broncos and releasing Brandon Lloyd this offseason. The New England Patriots picked up free agent receivers Danny Amendola and Donald Jones during free agency. They also re-signed wide receiver Julian Edelman to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
Emmanuel Sanders had career-highs in receptions (44) and yards (626) last season as well as a touchdown. The Pittsburgh Steelers had plans to retain Sanders for 2013, as he replaced Mike Wallace, who joined the Miami Dolphins last month. They likely only gave him the franchise tender because the team had a bad case of salary cap situation. Currently the Pittsburgh Steelers stand at $1.9 million in free salary-cap room after giving Sanders his free agent tender. The current cap space plus his original round tender fetches up near the New England Patriots’ offer sheet. But the Pittsburgh Steelers also require free cap space to sign their draft picks  in April’s draft, for which further cap room could be created by restructuring contracts or releasing a few aging players.
The Pittsburgh Steelers already promise to look different at their receiving corps with only Antonio Brown returning from the top three receiver’s with the team if they lose Emmanuel Sanders. The only remaining Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers with experience right now are Antonio Brown, Jerrichio Cotchery, Plaxico Burress and David Gilreath.
Emmanuel Sanders visited the New England Patriots last March. The 26-year-old Emmanuel Sanders has 94 receptions for 1,260 yards and five touchdowns in 40 games during his three-year NFL career.
