Stephon Marbury has been banned from the Knicks, ever since he turned down an offer from Mike D'Antoni for actual playing time the day before Thanksgiving.Marbury is currently making $20.8M this year to do absolutely nothing for the Knicks. They have even asked him to stay away from all Knicks games and practices in any official context.
Now that he has been effectively relieved of all duties as a professional basketball player, Stephon is basically going on vacation. His latest trip is a 2 week jaunt to Los Angeles. Coincidentally, the Knicks play the Lakers tonight in LA.
Apparently, Marbury was asking around, and found out that one of the hot things to do in LA is get tickets to the Lakers. That's a good time, from what people say. So he decided to check it out, and is reportedly trying to find courtside seats.
This might be against the Knicks' little "stay away" rule, or it might be a stroke of genius on Marbury's part.
Is it possible that we could possibly see Stephon Marbury, an employee of the New York Knicks, on the sideline heckling his estranged team? The thought is simply too good to be true. SLAM Magazine's Marcel Mutoni wants Stephon to show up in a Sasha Vujacic jersey, and I whole-heartedly agree.
Showing up to heckle his own team would be a completely classless move, but this situation has already gone way past the realm of normalcy, and has become one of the most ridiculous debacles in sports. If there's anything that could possibly make it any more insane, this might be it.
I probably won't watch the game, but I hope that if he shows up, they show him several times on TV, and I hope he's cheering on the Lakers. It just wouldn't get much better than that.
