The Los Angeles Lakers have had a very tough time winning games, and they have a serious road trip coming up. So, hearing that Steve Nash could be joining them is a serious pick-me-up.
Nash has been injured for 18 games, but could make his return against Cleveland. This is great news since it's also thought that Kyrie Irving will be making his return as well.
However, it isn't certain that Nash will be back that soon. Coach D'Antoni discussed it and how much he wants the point guard back, saying:
“I wouldn’t put my reputation on it. It’s possible. I think so. I hope so. I want it so bad sometimes I think I’m seeing things that might not be there, so I don’t know. But obviously he’s doing more, but he’s got a ways to go yet.”
Nash's return will not help the Lakers where they have struggled the most with defense, but he will help with another bigger problem: Pau Gasol.
There's been so much speculation about his future, but D'Antoni expressed confidence in Gasol and Nash together. He said of benching him:
“I’m not going to mess with Pau. He’s too important to the team and he’s earned it and he’s too good of a player to even go there yet. That would be a last-resort kind of [thing], desperate.”
The D'Antoni system is essentially built for Steve Nash so it will be good to see the guys playing with the main cog, finally.
Once Nash is back, the team will still have to work on their chemistry issues, although those are smaller than they were at the beginning of the season.
It's definitely not time to panic yet, because there's a lot of basketball to be played.
