This is terrible news for Los Angeles Lakers, who are playing the Dallas Mavericks tonight.
Steve Nash will not play in the game due to a hamstring strain and a hip issue, which has been bothering him for some time now.
The Mavs are only 1.5 games behind the Lakers, but if the Lakers lose, they'll drop to 2.5 games behind the Utah Jazz, who are currently in 8th place and have the tiebreaker over the purple and gold.
Mike Trudell tweeted out earlier:
* @stevenash (hamstring strain/hip) is OUT for tonight's game against Dallas.— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) April 2, 2013
Nash being out is expected; LAL don't play again until Fri., so he'll have 5 full days of rest (came out of 1st Q on Sat. at SAC).— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) April 2, 2013
D'Antoni said there's a chance Nash will be ready for Friday vs MEM: he'll be evaluated daily up to that point.— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) April 2, 2013
This means Steve Blake will be the starting point guard. Blake is not the fastest guy on the court, but he's come up big in recent games so it will be interesting to see how he fares.
Kobe Bryant is still injured, but predictably will tape his ankle together and play anyway.
Tonight will be telling to see how badly the Lakers really want to win. Hopefully Dwight Howard feels the need to show off in front of Shaq, who is getting his jersey retired at halftime, since he has always been one of Howard's biggest detractors.
