Steven Gerrard will return to full health before new season and World Cup
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has confirmed his availability for pre-season training following rumors suggesting the midfielder will be out of action till a couple of weeks into the season.
Steven Gerrard revealed he was healing at a good rate from his shoulder injury and expected to return to full training with the Liverpool squad in around two weeks. In an interview to Liverpool’s official website, Steven Gerrard said that he was raring to play for the Reds in the 2012-14 season.
The 33-year-old England captain took stepped up his rehabilitation process by returning to field and doing some light training. Steven Gerrard believes he will be ready to play besides his teammates in the pre-season if there are no setbacks in his recovery.
“It's going well and feeling strong,” Steven Gerrard said. “I'm six weeks down the line with the rehabilitation from surgery. I'm not too far away, maybe a couple of weeks away from contact and being back in full training if everything goes well. I'm looking forward to it.
“It's probably the longest break I've had at this time of year. Being out of the game for six weeks is enough. I'm itching to get back.”
Steven Gerrard was unable to play for England in the friendlies against Ireland and Brazil at the end of season because of his operation. At that time Liverpool announced that they could miss out on the services of Steven Gerrard when the new season begins.
Now, Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard has made excellent progress and will be ready to play for club and country in the upcoming season and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Steven Gerrard’s availability for England has become important since the Three Lions have to extract wins out of two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine. England have to attempt to acquire the best results in order to confirm their qualification for the World Cup. Both matches will take place in September this year.
According to Liverpool’s medical staff Steven Gerrard will be ready to play in the friendly at Preston on July 13. A three-match tour of the Far East and Australia will follow. Steven Gerrard will also be seen in action in his testimonial on August 3 against Olympiakos.
