Apr 20, 2014; Montreal, Quebec, CAN; Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos (91) lays on ice after being injured during the second period against Montreal Canadiens in the game three of the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Bell Centre. Mandatory Credit: Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY is reporting there is a possibility that Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos is going to be in a Toronto Maple Leaf's Jersey in the fall of 2016.

The two time 50 goal scorer's becomes a free agent in the summer of that year and there is a possibility he'll decide to return to Toronto to play for the Leafs (Stamkos's hometown is Markham, Ontario, Canada).

"It's a couple years away," said Stamkos in the article.  Stamkos said he is focus on winning with Tampa and the possibility of becoming a Leaf two years from now is not going to distract him.

As a Toronto fan, I would love to see the superstar (Stamkos) wearing the Maple Leaf on his chest.  The team can use a 50 goal scorer.

In 2011, Stamkos and Tampa Bay went to the Eastern Conference finals.  This year, however, the Lightning lost four straight games in the first round of the playoffs to the Montreal Canadiens.

The 24-year-old also missed the Olympics in Sochi, Russia because of a knee injury.

Stamkos a Leaf?  We'll know in two years, but for now, Stamkos is still a Lightning.
