.....One of the more disgusting rituals in sport today is the crazy, misguided fan who races through an arena or field naked. Why highlight shows decide to continue to show this is beyond me. I also hate leaving streaks when I do my windows or mirrors (I can see mrs. jp23 saying when she this- "You do windows???").
The Houston Rockets have truly an amazing thing going and it's their 20 game winning streak. All the more amazing is that a hefty chunk of this is being accomplished without their best player Yao Ming. (Two days with an NBA reference on here is a truly amazing streak too).
Soooooo......you can see this coming: A list of the most amazing streaks in sports, kind of the Good, the Bad and the Streaky.
The Good:
NBA: 33 wins in a row-LA Lakers in 1971-72. Houston's 20 wins in a row is now tied for the 2nd best in NBA history
NCAA Men's Basketball: 88 wins in a row-UCLA from January 1971-January 1974.
NCAA Football: 47 wins in a row-Oklahoma from 1953-1957
NCAA Women's Soccer: 103 wins in a row-UNC from 1986-1990
MLB(post 1900): 21 wins in a row-Chicago Cubs in September 1935 (note- the NY Giants have a 26 game winning streak that included a tie, which MLB does not include in its official records)
NFL: 19 wins in a row-New England from 2003-2004
NHL: 17 wins in a row- Pittsburgh in 1993
The Bad:
MLB: Years without a World Series- 100 by the Chicago Cubs
NCAA Football Division 1A: Northwestern Wildcats: 34 games.
NCAA Football Division 1AA: Prairie View A&M Panthers: 80 games.
NCAA Football Division III: Macalester College Scots: 50 games
NCAA Basketball: California Institute of Technology: 207 games.
NBA Basketball: Cleveland Cavaliers: 24 games.
MLB Baseball: Philadelphia Phillies: 24 games.
NHL Hockey: Washington Capitals and San Jose Sharks: 17 games
NFL Football: Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 26 games
(Thank You wikipedia)
And the Streaky:
-Colorado's stretch where they won 21 of 22 games to get in the MLB plyoffs and the world Series was truly amazing.
-Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak and Cal Ripken's Iron Man streak for consecutive games played will probably never be broken.
-Brett Favre's 275 (253 regular season) consecutive starts
-The fact that the NY Mets have never pitched a no-hitter is truly surprising
-UNC's men's basketball team appeared in a record 27 consecutive national tournaments from 1975-2001
These are just some of the notable streaks in sports. Just remember to leave your clothes on...
