Suck It Stern: All Underclassmen On The AP All-America Basketball Team
Usually it's good to be a senior. You get to beat up underclassmen and you rule the school. Unless you play basketball in college. If you're a senior and still playing basketball in college, then quite frankly, you suck. Really, really hard.

For the first time ever, the Associated Press named an All-America squad that had no seniors on it. And considering the AP has been naming an All-America squad since the 1947-48 season, that's quite an achievement.

Suck it David Stern.

The squad features North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, Kansas State's Michael Beasley, UCLA's Kevin Love, D.J. Augustin of Texas, and Chris Douglas-Roberts of Memphis.

The only one I'm really going to question is Douglas-Roberts, primarily because he's not even the best player on his own team. But nonetheless, it's a solid list. This year also marked the second year in a row that two freshman (Beasley and Rose) made the All-America first team.

You can keep on sucking it Stern.

I admittedly think the NBA rule requiring players to spend a minimum of one year in college is not only ridiculous, but unconstitutional. You're actively preventing someone from making a living, which is against the law.

Stern basically wants colleges to be what they've always been - a free minor league for NBA teams. And he'd prefer to have these kids develop not on his dime, but on someone else's.

Sure, it's a good business model, but it's also illegal. And not only is it illegal, it looks increasingly stupid as seniors are becoming nonexistent quality players in college basketball. I realize people will hit me with the Gerald Green's of the world in arguing that people should spend at least one year in college, but I don't buy it for an instant. Even guys coming out of high school have a right to seek employment, and that's being withheld from them.

I can't wait until we have a first-team All-America squad made up of all freshman, which is eventually going to happen. At that point, it'll be tough for Stern to impose this rule anymore without looking like a complete moron.

Why is it unconstitutional for the NBA to have an age requirement but not for the NFL?

Guys coming out of high school are seeking employment but the top jobs require a college education.  Pro ball is the top positions open in basketball  and  the NBA is requiring one year of college. You may be right in your discussion but this point won't cut it.

It's technically unconstitutional for both of them to have age limits. I'm still stunned no one has been able to knock-down the NFL age requirement. I know Clarett and Williams tried and failed, but someday it will get knocked down. The reason why the NFL gets away with it is because few players are ready to go pro in football straight out of high school or after their freshman year - so there's not much point in fighting it. Both leagues also are helped by the fact that they are essentially protected monopolies, and viewed slightly differently under US laws. But the simple fact is it's illegal to prevent someone from seeking employment because of their age once they're an adult - 18 years old. It couldn't be any more straightforward than that.

Doesn't Stern want to raise the age limit to 20 now? How many players in the league would have benefited from a year or two in college? I read an article that was dated two years ago about how the NBA really does not have many players that dominated straight out of high school. I believe LeBron, Kobe, KG, and one other player were mentioned to probably not gain anything from a year in college. Considering how many players there are in the league that came straight out of high school and how high that number was growing, (just look at the busts in the JR Smith Class) I am in favor of the rule.

Why is Lofton and even Gordon on All-American teams? Lofton was maybe the second or third best player on his team and Gordon had a disappearing act in the second half of the season.
