Sugar Bowl: Georgia Bulldogs vs Hawaii Warriors Live Thread

One year ago tonight I was writing about how we were on verge of one of the most influential games in bowl history. I'll echo that sentiment again.

Boise State proved a talented "mid-major" can play with the big boys and when undefeated, deserves serious consideration for the BCS Championship game. Now the question tonight is whether Hawaii is actually that good. Their best win is over Washington or Boise State. The former finished last in the Pac-10. The latter just got beat by an OK at best East Carolina team. The Warriors also struggled to beat powerhouses like San Jose State, Louisiana Tech and Nevada.

Colt Brennan's offense is explosive, no doubt, but they haven't played anyone in the same stratosphere of this Georgia team since USC paid a visit to Honolulu a few years back. My opinion is that Hawaii is a bit of a fraud this year, but that's why they play the games. There's no doubt June Jones will orchestrate some points tonight. Surprisingly, a fair amount of you picked the Island dwellers ...

FanIQ says Georgia (74%)

My Pick: Georgia 55, Hawaii 28
Confidence: 32

Georgia should be able to control the ball with Sugar Bowl record numbers on the ground. BUT ... if we're in for another shocker tonight, Hawaii could forever change how undefeated lesser football powers are considered for the BCS Championship Game. Can't wait for this one to start ...

Ha! Great start.  Hawai'i is living off of Boise State's win last year.  There's only 2 problems with that : 2006 Boise State is much better than 2007 Hawaii and 2006 Oklahoma was the weakest Oklahoma team in quite a while.  Different story this year.

Mike Hart has nothing on Keenan Jones.  He really needs to shut up.

This is going about how I expected. It's a joke Colt Brennan finished 3rd in the Heisman. Good player. Good QB, but 40+ players could put up the same numbers.

I think the announcers are going to have give up on the Hawaii come back chances.  I think this one is getting out of hand---fast :)

Who cares about carpet and drywall--simple fact--Hawaii was and is overrated!  No one cares about how frugal Jones might be!

Ya know what, good for Hawaii to score that TD...I LOVED how  the fans and band celebrated like they were up 41-10, not down 41-10

Heck, if you take his backup's numbers and project them out to the same amount of passing attempts as Brennan had, he'd end up with 4590 passing yards, 37 TDs, and 22 INTs.  Brennan ended up with 4343 passing yards, 38 TDs, and 17 INTs - not much of a difference there.  Colt Brennan - System quarterback.
Considering how often Graunke played, and the situations in which he played, I wouldn't really say that's a reasonable assessment. Also, don't discount Colt's performance last year. That's when he should have been getting all the recognition. This year, he hasn't been 100% healthy all year.
