Sunday Conference Tournament Thread: Championship Time
READ MORE:
Good day everyone. I know I don't usually do college hoops, but I'm on detail because CF is being questioned for his role in this little fracas.

All right, yesterday was pretty awesome. We saw G-Town go from mortal Final Four lock to suddenly not so much.  And we saw my pick to win it all - the UCLA Bruins - win the Pac-10 and likely a #1 seed. Tyler Hansborough also showed us yet again why he's the national player of the year by sinking a last second shot to put UNC in the ACC Championship game. His dance afterwards was not so awesome.

We also saw Georgia win 5 games in 2 hours. That was my favorite part of the day. Anyway, here's what's on tap for this afternoon.

Clemson vs North Carolina (ESPN, 1 p.m.) I like Clemson a lot because they're playing great and have a solid front court that could mess up Psycho T. They've also played UNC thisclose in their previous match ups this year. But Clemson can't hit free throws to save their lives. So UNC it is for me. Even though I can easily see an upset.

Texas-Arlington vs Northwestern State (ESPN2, 1 p.m.) Definitely take Northwestern State. They're outside shooting game is exceptional and their interior defense is enough to get them into the dance. And if you believed anything I wrote in that last sentence, you just got pwned. I know nothing about these teams, nor do I know why they're playing on Sunday. This game should have been played Thursday morning.

Kansas vs Texas (ESPN, 3 p.m.) Each year I think about picking Kansas to win it all, then I remember Bill Self and his rug are coaching this team. This game should tell us a lot about which one of these two teams will go farther in the tournament. Because as bad as Self is, Barnes is even worse. This is like a sheer talent game. So pay attention to who wins it, then whatever you do, don't pick either one to win it all.

Georgia vs Arkansas (ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.) Bubble teams everywhere are rooting for Arkansas. I'm rooting for Georgia to win, then play the Rockets at 7 p.m. to end their win streak, and then play the Harlem Globetrotters at 10 p.m. to cap it all off.

Illinois vs Wisconsin (CBS, 3:30 p.m.) As high as Wisconsin is ranked this year, I never like them in the Tourney. They always seem to "pull a Stanford" and get knocked out early. But I like them in this game. Illinois, and Michael Jordan's drunk kid, should have their season ended today.

NCAA tournament selection show (CBS, 6 p.m.) Ah yes. This is where the magic happens. And where dreams get destroyed for bubble teams. Enjoy.

Just because you called out my team I'd like to point out that last year was the first time a Bo Ryan coached Badger team lost to a lower seed in the NCAA Tournament.

"We also saw Georgia win 5 games in 2 hours."

Although, I think it was 2 games in 5 hours; Georgia played well either way yesterday.

I really am liking Oglesby right now. I would launch up 35 footers like he is too.

I kinda like that Clemson is pressing UNC because it takes Hansbrough away from the hoop, but I would imagine that Ty Lawson is about the absolute last guy you want to go up against in a running game.

These refs are need to show some consistency. If you are going to allow Tyler to be mugged without a call then please stop calling these tap calls for Clemson.

What has come upon Lawson? 10 minutes into this half he is exploding to the basket like he used to. First sign of that since the ending of the dook game and first sign of it lasting for minutes since he came back.

THREE FOR DANNY!

ACC Champions and the worst ending I have ever seen. Clueless fouls and missing free throws?!? If Clemson would make their free throws, North Carolina would have loss.

So last night/this morning was the WWL bragging about having the SEC Finals on ESPN2...in reality, its a CBS broadcast, also airing on CBS.

Makes sense..

Aren't you in Georgia's market though?  I believe its on CBS in Georgia's and Arkanas's markets.

Yea, I get the game on both ESPN2 and CBS. Which sucks only because I was actually hoping to watch that Big Ten game...

The fact that Illinois is still hanging around is starting to scare me.

If this score holds up for the Arkansas/Georgia game, I hope it means the end of complaints from their coach.

Wow, Georgia is destroying Arkansas.    Ridiculous, although if it could happen in any conference it'd be the SEC.

Holy Georgia Bulldogs. They're going to win this thing, aren't they?

BTW, Michigan State was called for another foul today in the championship game.

I like how he didn't take into account that while having to play two games in a row sucks, that Georgia would also be allowed more "friends and family." These have been home games for them which is more of advantage than anything else.

I am going to start up the grass roots movement of an Illinois/Georgia play-in game for the final 12 or 13 seed. Enough of this two really small schools having to travel to Dayton just to have to get into the actual big bracket. Yes We Can!

Edit: Right after typing that Greg Gumble tells us that it is Coppin St. vs Mount Saint Mary's in the Play-In game.

I understand your frustration with the (somewhat too) tightly called game, but your Spartans made some incredibly dumb fouls that any ref would've called.  MSU certainly wasn't doing themselves any favors out there.

Kansas has 21 FG's and 20 Assists. That is pretty good.

Houston is beating the Lakers down, 59-44 at the half. T-Mac has yet to score and Rafer "Skip To My Lou" Alston is outscoring Kobe.

4 guys fouled out to zero. That's just ridiculous.

I'm more frustrated with the officiating as a whole and not the injustice towards one team. The Big Ten can be perceived as a much better conference if they adjust the way games are called.

The reason Tom Izzo has done so well in the NCAA Tournament somewhat related to the officiating being much improved and little more relaxed. If you let the players play and MSU can get up and down instead of stupid hand check fouls and then assuming all blocks are also fouls the game grinds to a hault, Wisconsin style.

Hey look, another Michigan State foul.

Well... then I feel like I made the right choice in watching the Badger game.  I'm not ready for a world where Rafer Alston is the star in a game including T-Mac and Kobe.

And yet, still behind as of this moment by 3.

I highly recommend people watch the last 10 minutes of Texas/Kansas game. Very entertaining.

I've been watching this entire game and it has been amazing so far. I really want to pick Kansas to do some damage in the Tournament but I just know that with Bill Self they hit the Elite 8 wall.

Why does ESPN say that they have the brackets exclusively on Sportscenter and that we need to watch them and oh I don't know, CBS when they actually announce the brackets.

I really, really hope that the cold shooting this half is due to the fatigue of the two games yesterday -- I just have a feeling thats excuse #1 if Arkansas comes back though.

Probably the same reason why they said the SEC Championship can be seen only on ESPN2.

"As long as Atchley stays out of foul trouble"

Come on Fran, he has 4, he is already in foul trouble.

Chalmers + Rush = Elite 8...everyone else, including Self, might halt it just there though.

Arthur is really good inside though. It really depends on who KU gets matched up with in their bracket.

Wow that has to be the first time I have seen that called all year!

Big Ten basketball has become impossible to watch and I'm not sure if it is because of the teams or the officiating. I'm going to pay special attention and see if NCAA tournament games involving BT teams are still 58-53 slugfests or if they actually put some points up on the board.

The Big Ten does need to do something about the way the games are called. They are killing basketball.
