In a Super Bowl poll created before the conference championship games, I asked what matchups FanIQ would like to see. Out of the four possible outcomes; 55% voted Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia as the most exciting possible matchup. The battle of Mcnabb and Roethlisberger and the teams tough defenses would have been one for the ages. Obviously it was in the "cards" that Arizona would make the Super Bowl and ruin all sports fans dreams of an all Pennsylvania Super Bowl. The Steelers vs. Cardinals game was voted the best by just 19% of those polled. Parody is king in the NFL, and this year's playoffs have not strayed away from that theme. The poll also asked the question which matchup would be the worst possible outcome. The Cardinals vs. Steelers matchup finished second only to a Ravens/Cardinals possibility. 25% of the 900+ that took the poll dreaded this exact outcome. Another question asked was "Would you watch the matchup". Although for myself, a die hard NFL and sports fan, I would watch even the worst possible matchup, I still felt compelled to ask the question anyway. 43% of poll takers will watch the game and are excited about it, another 47% will still watch the game, and the other 11% will tune out completely on February 1st.
Now that the matchup is set I expect that more fans are excited in the Cardinals/Steelers matchup due to the difference in style of play. The Cardinals are offensive (mostly to Eagles fans), and the Steelers are defensive. Regardless of your feeling about the matchup, it should be a great game. For that 11% who stated they would not watch the game, I pity you. If you are a true sports fan, you won't be able to keep your eyes off of the television no matter how hard you try on Super Bowl Sunday. I even find myself watching 8 hours of pregame for no good reason. For this matchup I did select the option "I will watch the game but am not thrilled", but I have since changed my opinion.
Good luck to both teams.
