Super Bowl XLVI Commercials Sneak Peek

How will Sunday's Super Bowl ads stack up to your favorites? [Super Bowl XLVI Commercials Sneak Peek]

There are a few things we wait all year for; birthdays, holidays, vacations, the last day of school, the first day of school, and the Super Bowl.  Even people who know nothing about football, or (gasp) hate it, anticipate this unofficial holiday. Why? It's about more than the game, of course. There are parties with friends, family, alcohol, and food - AH the food of the Super Bowl. Not much compares. There's also the halftime show, which in recent years has been relatively lame, but memories of the not-so-distant past keep us hoping for a decent show. With Madonna, Nikki Minaj, and LMFAO on the lineup this year, we may not be disappointed.

The fact is, there's a reason the Super Bowl gets close to (or over) 100 million viewers every year, and it's not because there are that many NFL fans - though there are a good number of those. The Big Game is more than just a big game; it's entertainment. And a major part of that entertainment, the reason people make sure they have all the food and alcohol they need prior to the game so they don't have to make a beer or snack run, is the ads. Every year, we expect shocking or funny commercials, and every year we seem to get at least one that we're all talking about the next day at work, and in real time on Facebook, Twitter, and right here on FanIQ (yes, we'll be having an open thread specifically for the ads Sunday)!

Let's take a look back at some memorable ads from the past:

2010, Doritos

2006, Budweiser (about the only great thing that came from SBXL)

2002, Budweiser 9/11 Tribute

And while we're on Budweiser, who could forget the original Budweiser frog commercial? Certainly not the funniest of the Budweiser animal commercials, but here's where it all started, in 1995:

The funniest Budweiser ad, in my opinion, didn't even air during a Super Bowl; rather, it aired during the playoffs in 2000. Come on, you know we couldn't post the frogs without the chameleons and ferret.

Sorry gang, but the absolute best spot of all those that have been previewed so far (I work in Advertising, I know these things!~) won't even be seen in the US. Instead, it will air in Canada during SB46 and was produced for Budweiser Canada:

Still doesn't get me thirsty for a Budweiser, but as a former hockey player myself, it certainly makes the connection...

 TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!

Actually, I read some background on the spot in Ad Age and the agency that did the spot actually had Cameron (Alan Ruck) in the original script but, when they started refining things, they just couldn't find the room for the additional character...

Nice insight.

That is a good spot.  But the fact that they are trying to sell Budweiser is kind of lost.  Maybe that's part of why I like it...

since they do nothing, you'd think it'd be low

Am I the only one that thinks it would be hilarious to have Ferris (Broderick) riding a racehorse?  Even Sara Jessica would prob laugh, ok, probably not her

I never watch that game nor attend any game related gatherings and consequently never see the infamous commercials until they air later.  Therefore I am never a part of the discussions at work about the commercials.  Thank you for posting a bunch here.  Loved the Ferris Bueller homage!  The rest were mediocre at best.

BTW...  I find it interesting that no matter what happens in the actual game it never fails that people the next day are NEVER talking about it.  They talk about the commercials.  Even the biggest NFL fans in the building are on about the ads.  NOT the game.
So that is what it has come to...
