The Harbaugh brothers storyline could drive the Super Bowl betting action past $95 million
Las Vegas oddsmakers are confident that the Super ‘Harbaugh’ Bowl could break the record for most gambling action on the big game, set in 2006 by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks matchup at Super Bowl XL.
The game brought in over $94.5 million on sports betting action, as the Steelers beat the Seahwaks 21-10.
Oddsmakers believe that the Harbaugh brothers’ storyline along with the improved economy could drive the sports betting action on the game well past the $94.5 million record, with a large chunk of the money coming from novice gamblers intrigued by the brother versus brother storyline.
The gambling action on the Super Bowl took dive after the economic crash in 2008, but has since increased over the past two years, and is expected to continue to thrive over the next few years. During the first week of Super Bowl betting the majority of the early action has come in on the Baltimore Ravens which has, in turn, moved the line down to 3 or 3.5 points depending on the sportsbook.
