Ernie Johnson is fantastic, I'll never criticize him. He's excellent at his portion of the job, but he's even more interesting when he has a couple unique personalities alongside.
Cal Ripken Jr. and Frank Thomas are not that. Great people, very knowledgeable about the game, but bland. Where's the big fat guy saying something stupid? Where's the same formula that works so well for TNT's NBA coverage?
This sequence summed it up best.
"After the Rockies defeated the Phillies in Game 1 on Wednesday, Thomas said something that reflected his inexperience. For the Phillies, he said, “The key for the guys is to just come back tomorrow and give the guys what they need, which is a big win in Philly.”
