Remember when the phrase "Don't tase me, bro" swept the nation? Yep, it was hilarious. And everyone wondered, "Are we tasing too many people?" only to forget about about that question two weeks later.
Well, if you're an athlete, you might be thinking that the public never really solved that tasing question, because athletes you know keep getting tased at a rate higher than escaped mental patients.
Today's tasing story involves Tampa Bay Bucs reserve safety Donte Nicholson, who was tasered twice and arrested during a weekend scuffle with police officers at the entrance of a Florida nightclub.
Here are some other recent athlete tasings from the past year:
- Tampa Bay Rays reliever Al Reyes was tasered in Tampa Bay during his 38th birthday.
- John David Booty's older brother Josh, a former NFL QB, was tasered in jail.
- Florida Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen got the business for driving under the influence.
- Half of the Bengals roster.
- A Florida St. football player got tased only days after the Florida student was tased.
- Spurs guard DerrMarr Johnson was tasered outside a nightclub while breaking up a fight.
- The entire U-20 Chilean men's soccer team.
- Vikings player Fred Evans got tasered twice when he refused to get out of a cab and fought with police.
- Former NFL running back Tim Worley, and it was all caught on tape.
And if you think that was bad, 2006 was probably even worse. It was called "Year of the Taser" on this blog. But I won't even go into those details.
I'm not sure what it is, either that athletes are overly aggressive or they're just intimidating to police officers. Probably a combination of both. But either way, if you're a pro athlete - or hell, even a college athlete - keep you wits about you.
And whatever you do, don't piss off the cops. That way all they'll do is mace you and waterboard you, just like they did to Cedric Benson.
You know what, maybe you guys should just stay inside all the time.
