It was cute when the Tampa Bay Rays teased us with the best record in all of baseball back in May, but now we're past the interleague beatings and the Rays are back on top. Frightening.
Could this be for real? The Rays are on pace to win 98-games. What the devil is going in?
Andy Sonnanstine moved to 9-3 after seven more strong innings of five-hit baseball. At the plate, it seems like a different Ray gets it done each night. Sunday was Willy Aybar and Shawn Riggans turn. Said manager Joe Maddon reflecting on the season thus far:
"It's been an anonymous first half; nobody has really stood out. There's no one guy having a killer season, which furthermore makes it even more appealing to me that we're at this juncture, being in the place that we are, knowing that somebody's going to turn into a beast in the second half."The Rays AL East campaign officially begins tonight with 1st place on the line against Boston. How about another fight? Rays 4, Bucs 3

In total, the American League won 149 out of 251 games, the second most dominant interleague performance since the beatings began in 1997. Helping this trend ...
Reds 9, Indians 5 What is up with the Injuns? You'd figure they would have joined their peers in taking advantage of the weaker NL. Instead they went 6-12 versus the DH-less bunch, the worst of all AL teams.
Twins 5, Brewers 0 The unbelievable play of the Twinkies continues, 14-4 in total versus the NL, which should have propelled them into first place in the AL Central, if not for my beloved ballclub. Kevin Slowey was fasty on Sunday - complete game shutout with eight strikeouts and zero walks.
Sox 5, Cubs 1 I don't want to talk about it. Good thing the Cubs have Zito up next.
