At the beginning of the MLB playoffs, some people were talking about the possibility of an all Chicago World Series. A week later, we're one game away from both Chicago teams getting swept out of the playoffs. But why focus on failure, when we should be concentrating on the best story in baseball: the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays obviously won the AL East, so we know they're a good team. But there were a lot of questions about how they'd respond in the playoffs, considering they're so young and have hardly any playoff experience. But that hasn't mattered at all. Although the Rays found themselves down at points in both games 1 and 2 of this series, they stormed back to win both games convincingly.
Today the Rays will send Matt Garza (11-9, 3.70) to the mound. The right-hander failed to last more than five innings in any of his last three regular-season outings, posting a 5.52 ERA in that stretch. He's 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA in three career starts against the White Sox.
The White Sox will counter with John Danks (12-9, 3.32 ERA). Danks is 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA in four career starts against the Rays, including 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA in 2008.
The White Sox likely won't fold as easily as the Cubs. They've been impossible to beat in season ending-style games of late. They beat Detroit to force a one game playoff against the Twins for the AL Central title, and then promptly beat the Twins.
Right now, 63% of FanIQ is going with the Rays.
