Tampa Bay Rays Versus Philadelphia Phillies World Series Game 4 Live Thread
Game 4 Means Pretty Much Everything For Both Teams
Anytime a team goes up 2-1 in the World Series, it makes Game 4 extremely important. In this World Series, it's even more important than you probably realize. If Philly wins tonight, they'll be up 3-1 with Cole Hamels yet to pitch a second time in the series. And they can avoid even having to go back to St. Petersburg. However, if the Rays win tonight, and tie this thing up, suddenly it's best of 3 with potentially 2 of those games coming on the Rays' home turf - with the potential for the Phillies to pull a desperation move if it goes to 7 by pitching Hamels on 3 days rest.

Am I be bold enough to say that whoever wins tonight will win the World Series? Sure, why not.

The Rays lost a real tough one in Game 3 last night after battling back late to tie the game at 4-4. But they basically imploded in the ninth. It'll be interesting to see how they respond tonight. Judging by how the Rays managed not to let that stunning loss against the Red Sox in Game 5 of the ALCS kill them, I have a feeling they'll be ready to go.

The Phillies will send Joe Blanton to the mound tonight to try and give them a nearly insurmountable lead in the Series. Meanwhile, the Rays will counter with Andy Sonnanstine.

Blanton, who was 4-0 in 13 starts for the Phils after being acquired from Oakland, has struggled in his career against the Rays, going 2-3 with a 6.05 ERA in eight outings.

Sonnanstine, meanwhile, is 2-0 this postseason with a 3.46 ERA.

FanIQ still favors the Rays, with 62% of you picking them.

Nice for Sonnanstine to throw to the wrong base......then the umpire totally blows the call. These umps need to go burn in hell. How much are the Phillies paying?

Ahhh.....finally back home.  What did I miss?

And as far as the umpire f-up at 3rd base, that was a HORRIBLE call.  It looked like he was looking right at the butt cheek that Longoria tagged.  I don't know how he couldn't call that.

The umpires have been horrible.  I haven't been keeping count for the series, but I don't think the Phils got any calls last night at all.  I would hate for them to "make up" tonight, as that's not very fair.

I hope your joking.  Did you catch the terrible missed out on last night to start a 2 run inning for the Rays?  Or how about the home plate ump calling out the batter as swinging and just changing his mind and letting him walk in game 2?  And the clear 9th inning hit by pitch that just wasn't called?  The umps have been consistently terrible this World Series but to say they are favoring the Phillies is ridiculous.

Ouch.....

I had to decide between giving that a smart and a funny - as it is both smart and funny.

Well done.....

I don't think its going to be possible for anyone to top that reference tonight.

Phils have to weather this storm - the Rays are definitely capable of swinging themselves back into this game.

After like 20 years, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck he's saying in that song. All I know is that it's from the 12 Inches of Snow CD.

Much better "God Bless America" tonight.  100% improvement.

Man, the camera angle on that guy makes him look Russian singing God Bless America. Next time try the straight on shot and avoid the pig nose blaring.

The Phils deserve this more, they actually have fans..even if the Rays did win this series they would still have twelve thousand show up for day 2 of the regular season..Florida does not deserve Major League Baseball..and Tropicana Park...what a toilet that place is

Ahh crap. So much for the "under"... I would be EXTREMELY proud of Tampa. You can tell pressure affected them putting them in this hole. I think the added adrenaline and knowing the Red Sox better in the ALCS helped them win that, but they haven't played against Philadelphia much, and they are a play-off & World Series newbie. They are just as talented as Philly if not more, but as i said, i think the lack of experience versus Philly and the same errors and added pressure sank them to this point. They'll be back next year. Maybe a little stronger... [scary]. Who knows. That's whats great about baseball unlike any other sport. You never know what could happen. As they say, there's only ONE October.

As for Game 5, Down 3-1, Cole Hamels and home in Philly... good luck pulling that one off, Rays. You're not Boston, so you can count that comeback out. World Series trophy stays on I-95... just a little father south... [unfortunately].
