Tank Johnson Wasn't Legally Drunk; Just Slightly Under the Influence and Still Stupid
READ MORE:
Not that it could, or should save him much, but Tank Johnson wasn't legally drunk. Barely.

Tank's blood alcohol level was .072, just below the .08 legal limit.

The fact remains Johnson chose to drink and then drive at 3am, and this doesn't change the Bears stance.

Nor should it. The fact that he was one mouthful of beer away from legally drunk doesn't change the fact that he put himself in a position to embarrass the Bears and endanger others. There will be fools who say the Bears acted too quickly and this proves it, but fools are meant to be ignored.

For someone of that size, even a .072 takes a fair amount of drinks. It's not like had 1 or 2 and decided to drive. He's not a small dude. It was stupid of him to even chance something like that, given the thin ice he was on.

Yeah, I use to remember a few of the conversions for a 200 pound person.  You know, just for personal knowledge.  I believe that it's 9/10 beers or 8/9 mixed drinks over five hours puts you over the legal limit.  So for someone his size, 300+, you are talking about a lot of drinks.

Cost of a cab or personal driver: $100

Cost of a 1-year contract in the NFL: $5,000,000

Why can't these guys do the simple math?

I for one think the Bears did act too quickly though i agree that they made the right decision. The only thing I would want to see is some type of due process before sentencing. Though again i agree with the sentence even after the facts have come out. It doesn't change the dangerous recklessness of Tank Johnson and his punishment should still be carried out.
