Tavon Austin UNLEASHED - Not Yet

Nov 10, 2013; Indianapolis, IN, USA; St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin (11) runs back a punt during the first quarter against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Pat Lovell-USA TODAY SportsWe all witnessed Tavon Austin run past the Colts like he was Flash. He had a beautiful 98 yard punt return for a TD. Followed by a 57-yard and an 81-yard catch-and-run TD. If you watched the game and checked the stats you would see that Tavon only had 2 catches and the Colts defense just had a horrible day. Yes, Tavon destroyed them but he only had 2 catches. The Rams still do not know how to use him. They have tried running the Wild Cat (Wild kitty cat as I like to call it) with him as well. 4 out of the 10 games so far played he has less than 10 reception yards. The rest with the exception of Week 10 he has averaged less than 50 reception yards per game with only 2 TDs.

For a team that moved up pretty high in the draft to pick him up you would think they would use him more. Now you could blame some of this on Jets fan favorite OC Brian Schottenheimer (Jets fans still love blaming Schottenheimer). Hopefully with Zac Stacy running very well this will open the passing game for STL moving forward. I would love to see Tavon put up performances like week 10 on a consistence basis. I just do not see it happening yet.

Does not help that Bardford is out for the season. Then again Bardford was not doing much either. Hopefully we see Tavon grow instead of just being slammed in a medicore at best offense.

I'm not so sure Bradford is to blame for Austin's lack of success.  Tavon has had chances but he's also had trouble catching and then holding onto the ball.

To me, Tavon Austin's speed is his greatest asset.  He is going to be one of those receivers that catches the 6-10 yard pass and then when a secondary adjusts, he either blows right by them for a long catch or he catches something short and out runs everybody.

Austin not only had 2 catches but he was also only targeted 4 times on offense.  Coach Schottenheimer has to do a better job of getting Austin involved because he showed against the Colts the explosiveness that this offense is lacking.
