Time To Send Dirk Nowitzki Home, Most Of Team USA Is Used To That

Wait a second, what's an American doing on this team?

As you've surely learned, the qualifications for gaining citizen prior to Olympic competitions have eased dramatically. Chris Kaman, pictured with his countryman teammate Dirk Nowitzki, was granted German citizenship because... wait for it... his great grand parents were German.

I didn't realize our ancestors origins could be taken into consideration. I'll have to check out Great Britain's 2012 roster and see if I can fill any gaps.

The best part of this story is that Kaman's dad thinks as highly of his son as we do.

"My dad is not so thrilled," Kaman said. "My mom has always supported me, she's great. My dad is kind of negative about it. He's like: 'You're not German, you're an American citizen.'"

Well, Chris, your dad has a bit of a point. You were born in West Michigan and had never traveled to Germany prior to this summer. But hey, if your goal is to get your ass kicked by your own country in the Olympics, who's to stop him.

Team USA has already qualified as the Men's Group B winner and top seed, so Monday morning's game vs Germany is nothing more than a final tune-up for the medal round. A much needed opportunity to refine their outside shooting and keep Dwyane Wade on fire.

Game beings at 8 AM ET. Grab some coffee and join in the early morning live thread below.

That was not a basketball game, that was a reenactment of the Bombing of Dresden.

Nice of the US to take it easy on Kaman. His dad will be proud.
