Maybe Kobe Bryant was wrong about this year’s Olympic squad being able to beat the legendary 92’ Dream Team- they were barely able to beat Argentina on Sunday.

The U.S team escaped with an 86-80 victory over an aging Argentina squad. Kevin Durant scored 27 points, and hit a big three pointer during the final minutes of the game to help team U.S.A secure the victory.

Bryant chipped in with 18 points and James added another 15 for the squad that is severely in need of low post scoring. The team spent most of the game taking jump shots and relying on transition offense.

Team U.S.A will play an exhibition verses on Tuesday versus a Spain team that boasts three 7 footers in the Gasol brothers and Serge Ibaka.

The U.S team is a -1000 favorite to win the gold medal and Spain is +400.

The American’s are definitely the best team in the Olympic tournament, but in a single elimination format could easily lose a game and are not a lock to win the gold. When you are a jump shooting team with no interior presence, there are days when your jump shots do not fall. And if the team gets into a slow placed half court offense type of game against a big team, they are in really danger of losing.

“I love it. You hate to breeze through exhibition games and then you get to London, and then you start getting competitive,” Said Lebron James after the game. “So we have a very good team. It doesn’t matter about how many points you win by, you just want to play well and get better that night”
