The Redeem Team is now one win away from accomplishing their mission. Team USA gave little doubt as to how committed they were to winning gold, jumping to a 21-4 lead against Argentina today in the semifinals.
Argentina lost their leading scorer and flopper Manu Ginobili early in the game to a foot injury, but the 2004 gold medal winners rallied immediately after his departure. The Argentines rallied from 21-points down to get into single digits early in the second half. While it was their closet game yet, Team USA still coasted to a relatively comfortable 101-81 victory.
Carmelo Anthony, one of the biggest disappointments during the Athens Games, took his turn to lead his country in scoring. The only disappointing aspect of Team USA has been free-throw shooting, but Anthony nailed all 13 attemps, helping him reach 21 points in total. Chris Bosh continued his very strong play off the bench, battling with Luis Scola and Francisco Oberto for 10 boards.
So now it's on the finish the deal, and bring the gold medal back to the US. Spain awaits on Sunday, who lost not just an earlier game to the Americans, but also the ability to speak English afterwards.
