Team USA vs Spain Live Thread And Up All Night Live Blog [Beijing 2008 Olympic Games]
Live From The Central Time Zone (Tape-Delayed On The West Coast) It's Saturday Night Live (Blog)
READ MORE:
Team USA dominated Spain 119-82 in pool play and are favored by 21.5 points in the Gold Medal matchup. Spain will be without injured point guard and misrememberer of the english language Jose Calderon. So if Team USA can keep up the defensive pressure and continue to knock down their shots when Spain goes zone, then I have no doubt that they will cover the spread and bring back the Gold medal.

Good job NBC to finally realize that the entire country should get to watch the Redeem Team "reach" for the Gold medal against Spain. As you can see, Chris Bosh is already digging deep for the Gold.

[The game starts at 2:30am EST / 11:30pm PST]

After the game, 100% and myself going to attempt, and I emphasize attempt, to stay up all night and live blog the remainder of the overnight  Olympics. Those events could be on the different networks or online but our goal is to make it until the sun comes up.

So join us here all night, and here's what on tap this evening.

NBC

After the men's basketball game is boxing, men's javelin, men's table tennis, and men's mountain biking.

CNBC

12am to 2pm - Bronze-medal basketball game: Argentina vs. Lithuania (LIVE ET/CT).

Online NBC.com

1:30am to 3:30am - Spain takes on Croatia in the bronze medal men's handball game.

3:45 to 5:45 - Iceland's handball men aim to win the country's first ever Olympic gold medal against France.

Go here to watch these games.

So now for the live blog and we head over to the Handball Final. All times will be central time.

3:34am - France leads Iceland 15-11 early in the 2nd half.

3:35am - Sick fake and slam goal by some French dude.

3:47am - I have no doubt in my mind Team USA basketball would dominate in handball. France leads 21-13.

3:51am - What are the odds Ginobili falls down once they put his medal on him?

4:01am - I don't think I have ever been more excited while watching an Olympic basketball game. What a great moment seeing those guys get their golds.

4:10 - Making a save in handball has to be all luck. Congratulations to France for winning the Men's Handball Gold Medal.

4:14am - There better be more events going on right now that are live somewhere or else this live blog will get dull really fast.

4:26am - So it turns out there is nothing live anymore so this is all of a live blog you are going to get.

4:32am - Well, hold on, women's mountain biking just finished. I'm not really sure how anyone actually passes anyone in this damn sport. By the way, this event sucks. -100%

4:43am - Well all we are getting in the Central time zone is the replay of Russia vs Italy in the Bronze Medal Men's Volleyball match *Spoiler* Russia wins.

I don't care how many times I see it, the Marvin Gaye/Team USA commercial is the best commercial I have seen in a long time.

Reach deep for that gold, Chris.

It gives me chills.

This would be the best gold medal game ever for me, but my tv right now gives me random channels at random times.  Go USA.

The bronze medal game is on, and one of the commentators compared Argentina to Pat Riley's Knicks teams. That pretty much says it all.

The Floppers (Argentina) is having a hard time putting away the other Floppers (Lithuania) over on CNBC. Pretty unentertaining game really.

I've seen 5 javelin throws so far and they all seem to fall down when they throw. Apparently Ginobili is coaching the javelin this year.

Anyone who thinks that the Olympic judging isn't fishy, all they need to do is look and see that Ed Rush is an official for the Bronze medal game.

The Ma Wang ping pong matchup is pretty solid on NBC.

I'm watching live on the West Coast...Thank goodness for the Olympic Basketball Channel...It's only available in HD, so the picture is wonderful even though I don't have an HD TV yet...But most important it's LIVE in San Diego....

The worst thing that could happen would be Spain getting a lot of confidence and think they can beat us.

Bad call on LeBron's second foul.

I'm thinking LeBron James will tear the roof down with a dunk real soon because he's past up on 2 real good opportunities the past 2 games....He keeps passing it at the last second...

One of the refs is from Argentina...He may be biased a bit...

Smart move to have Tayshaun's long arms in there...

What a flop. These refs need to just loosen up.

Geez, this is ridiculous. When did Donaghy start reffing the Olympics.

Are these refs listening to the crowd?? Kobe and LeBron haven't even played...D-Wade is the MVP of this team during the 2008 Olympics...

Spain needs to use the slanty eye strategy. No one can stop that.

Why did the entire Spanish bench just go ape-sh*t there? What is going on?

I'm a huuuge Lakers fan, so I find it hard to believe Pau will dominate this game at any point...Don't get me wrong, I love Pau being on the Lakers...

They were upset that Kobe hit a 3, and then had a breakaway dunk I guess...

Is it bad that I had a girl over at my apartment but was more impressed by Dwayne Wade??? I was afraid of that.

We're looking good right now, hopefully we keep it up.

I know what you mean.  He's a terrific number 2, but I wouldn't want him as the centerpeice of my team.

Hey everyone... it seems like NBC finally did something right, and they're showing this game live in Hawaii, too. So that would make this the FIRST thing in the entire Beijing Olympics that is being shown LIVE in Hawaii.  I take back everything I said about NBC sucking.

Ok, so not everything, but I'm glad they at least gave us this one game.

I'm waiting for that "Monster" LeBron James dunk...Just waiting....D-Wade is out of his mind right now...

I was critical of Prince being on the team but he has played really well so far.

I also burnt my frozen pizza because of the D-Wade show.

I don't care how he spells his name, Dwyane Wade is just ridiculous.

8/24/08

I take back everything I ever said about Dwyane Wade already passing his prime.  I also now will regain the pride I had in the fact that he attended a Wisconsin college (one that is rightt down the road from me).

On a side note, if David Stern doesn't market the heck out of these guys he's a moron.  This is as lovable of a team as you can get, and they could wonders for the NBA.

I'm happy with our first half, but at the same time the Spaniards have to be happy that they are only down 8.

Anyone else remember what cities were in the running for these 2008 Olympics?  Still amazed that a country with as many civil rights violations would get a sports event that is supposed to celebrate everything right with humanity.  I'm not saying that we as Americans are perfect, but China is definitely doing worse than most of the rest of the world.

They beat out Toronto, Paris, Istanbul, and Osaka. Bangkok, Cairo, Havana, Kuala Lumpur, and Seville submitted bids but didn't make the final cut.

Thanks.  Personally, I think an Olympics in Paris would've been awesome, but my opinion doesn't matter much as I wasn't going to the Olympics regardless of where it was.

Wow... that's not exactly a stellar list, in my opinion. But Toronto seems like it would have been a better choice.

Paris - No way, it's France
Istanbul - Eh...
Osaka - Japan doesn't deserve another Olympics quite yet. Nagano was what... 10 years ago?
Cairo - The Middle East doesn't seem like the best idea any time soon...
Havana - Did someone say human rights?
Kuala Lumpur - Sounds cool, but that's all I know about it
Seville - Where?

Whoever decided to have the online broadcast with no commentators, thanks! I'd much rather hear the players & coaches swearing at each other.

All I can say is that Coach K sounds so much more polite in his commercials.

If Spain is playing the zone, Michael Redd absolutely has to be in the game.  I don't care if we play 5 guards, Redd needs to be playing.

I was in Mexico two summers ago, and I learned that maltido is a bad word.  They used that for almost everything in the translations.

Somewhat ironically, the international game benefits us, as two of our best players have great mid range games, but bad long range games.

Rubio is going to be a great NBA player someday, if he chooses to do so. The kid has played very well for a 17-year old against a team like Team USA, and showed a lot of poise. He wasn't exactly a superstar for Spain, but wow... to compete like that at 17 years old is VERY impressive.

I'm really young, but I'd have to say this is the best Olympics of my life.  Phelps' 8 golds, China becoming a hateable enemy, and the Redeem team's gold... doesn't get better than this.
